This has been in our family since before 1925. It is quadruple silver-plated, 12" handle to handle, 6" to top of lid. Made by Victor Silver co., patent year 1904. Looks art nouveau to me.

Thanks, pals. I think we've hit it with either casserole or serving (covered dish). I'm quite sure it's not a chafing dish.
I do appreciate your willingness to put on your thinking caps and help out! What a great bunch we all are, right?!

Indeed we are! Well..except me, I realised I was wrong the minute I hit the 'Post' button!
How are you faring for weather? Are you having rain or snow? California, Nevada and Arizona are sure getting hit with terrible storms and floods but you should be high and dry!

Otteropp: Well, we're mighty mighty wet up here! 6,000 ft alt., and our house is on a rocky ridge with nowhere for water to run off. Only thing that could hurt us would be an enormous boulder from Suicide Rock (not too far away) that could crash down on us. Until then, no problemo.
Rain rain rain rain rain for many days, with seasonal streams flooding, and tonight, snow.

Hang in there, Adele. My daughter says trees are falling down in her area. Guess there is no soil to hold the roots as it has washed away.
They are OK tho. Merry Christmas to you. Neva
