There is a seller I watch for my daughter. When I look up her completed items, if an item sells it shows the bid price and the BIN price in green.
See item # 370644109529
It looks like the high bid was $4.25, but why is the BIN (29.50) still there and why is it in green?
On my auctions that I list with a BIN, when a person bids, the BIN goes away. Even after the item closes, the BIN price is not still listed in the auction. If the item does not sell, the starting price & BIN price are there in red.
What am I missing. Many of this sellers items show up like this & I am just wondering why.

Ebabe, if you look at her list of completed items, most of the items that sold, the BIN is still listed & is in green, but the item sold for far less through the bids.

Hmm, you have to go to her completed lists to see what I mean. The individual listing does not show it. Hopefully here is a link.

I can explain it to you. It is another stupid thing eBay does. I hate to sum it up that way, but there really isn't an explanation.
It simply highlights the fact that the item had a Buy It Now, but sold for much less. It is eBay's way of telling buyers that if they wait, they may get a screaming good deal on it.

Shag, that would make sense, but my items do not show up like that. When someone bids, the BIN goes away never to return. Not in completed or any where. Still confused.

I think this may be the answer...the category is Clothing and the final price was less than 50% of the Buy it Now Price
"Longer Lasting Buy It Now - Now in more categories

Update to Category and Price thresholds The following categories will have Longer Lasting BIN w.e.f 10/17/2007 with a price threshold of 50%. 1. Parts & Accessories (eBay Motors) 2. Tickets 3. Clothing, Shoes & Accessories 4. Cell Phones & PDAs Price Threshold: 50% i.e. The BIN option will be available on an item till the current bid reaches or exceeds 50% of the BIN price. Note: For reserve price auctions, the Buy it Now option will continue to be available till the reserve price is met. The price threshold is only applicable once the reserve has been met or exceeded.

Wow, thanks guys, that does explain it. My BINs for 95% of my items are not that much higher than my starting price (whatever they allow + a little more if appropriate). I never start items so low if I think they are worth more, but I guess when you are selling preowned clothing, you start low & cross your fingers.

OMG!! otteropp, I just read through that thread. Started like you said & then skipped to the last few pages. I am dumbfounded at the lack of intelligence in those comments. It makes me understand what I have been dealing with all these years if this is the level of comprehension for most of the buyers & sellers on EBAY!!
I know I was not aware of the rule & what was happening with the BIN sometimes disappearing & sometimes hanging around, but after an explanation, I GOT IT!! I GOT IT!! These people do NOT GET IT!!
If you need a laugh or perhaps a headache, read through some of this thread.

I remember them doing that! I haven't run an auction format listing in almost 2 years and now realize what you were confused by. It was a nice feature that rarely affected my listings since they weren't in the correct categories.
I actually like the BIN while the listing is still running. It gets the nervous types to jump on the BIN if an early bidding war starts... but those are now rare.
