http://pages.ebay.com/sell/returns/optin.html

A close look at this new feature suggests this will be the new requirement for sellers. We will have to cover the return shipping fees as it states in the small print.

Ebay is promoting this new "feature" offering sellers a 5% discount for signing up "now". Hmmmm... where have we seen this pre-sign up tactic before???

I predict the Spring 2013 update will require sellers to sign up for this in order to receive their 20% FVF discounts, and by the Fall 2013 update it will become required for ALL sellers to provide this.

Get ready to have your small profits completely pillaged.

"By opting into the new managed returns process, you acknowledge and agree to its terms and conditions, and you authorize eBay to include any return shipping charges and autorefund amounts on your invoice as a fee which may be charged to your automatic payment method on file"

Nice... Can't wait to see the flood of fraudulent returns hitting sellers now that suspicious buyers can buy, switch, and return the item free of charge.

Consider- A $10 item may cost a seller $5 wholesale. It costs $5 to ship. Seller then pays $5 for return shipping, gets their fees refunded (I suspect Paypal will keep the processing fee... of course). Item is opened, so seller can't sell it for full price. LOSS.

Another seller offers furniture. Item is $1000, Freight cost is $500. Buyer returns item, $500 freight cost is paid to eBay, buyer gets full refund, seller loses $500 on sale.

Yeah, that is going to bring sellers in droves to want to sell on eBay.

Since I offer 14 days return,I have 4 returns and thats high for me !
All of them paid for return shipping and a 5% restocking fee, they dont seem to mind .
Shag,
you can add a restocking fee in your return policy to cover some expenses of processing return .
I have seen restocking fee varies from 2-12%.

I rarely get returns and if I have made a mistake or left something out - I do refund the return shipping. But having this done automatically is just crazy.
I could handle it on my jewelry ID but as Shag said if it's a piece of furniture - forget it.
I do 14 day returns on furniture now but they have to pay to return it so it's not a problem.
If they do make the seller pay all return shipping - no returns will be my new policy.
My TRS will be gone and I'll be buried again.

I just reviewed the Ebay return procedure,it is not as bad as some think?
First we get to decide who pays for return shipping and we can specify a restocking fee of 10-20%.
Ebay said it will cut down on the number of buyer protection disputes, the number of buyer disputes filed does hurt the seller so it is to our advantage to let the buyers return the item without going to Ebay and file a buyer protection case!
Second,we get to specify restocking %,right now I am asking 5%,it appears Ebay is starting at 10 % going to 20% as the max,if you have items which sell for a few hundred dollars, this is not a small sum of money for your efforts.
Your Comments please !
