When I tried to view this it required that I put in my Yahoo password, just a heads up.

This could get really complicated. It repeats in a related article the plight of the book seller from ebay's Main street announcement.

How would this even effect new items. If I bought items from a distributor that are new, can they be sold if manufactured outside of the US? Can Macy's sell items? Can get very complicated. I mentioned before about used cars, that is in the article, also.

I do not believe the Supreme Court will uphold this ruling. It seems to go against free enterprise.

The issue at the Supreme Court is how copyright protection applies to items that are made abroad, purchased there and then resold in the U.S. without the permission of the manufacturer.

Wiley maintains that while the written content of books for the domestic and international markets is often similar or identical, books intended for international markets can differ from the domestic version in design; supplemental content, such as accompanying CD-ROMS; and the type and quality of materials used for printing

Moreover, it has argued, the foreign editions are marked with a legend to designate that they are to be sold only in a particular country or geographic region.

There is nothing illegal to buy foreign goods from distributors and resell them on Ebay or brick and mortar store or a booth in street festival .
You figure so many goods these days are made outside the country, like China .
But I have been thinking of an old thread where state of California wants individual sellers to acquire a license to sell retail !
So many individuals have been happily listing and selling on Ebay ,Craigslist ,AMZN,Yahoo etc working from home and you cant say we are just liquidating our own collections,we are taking business away from the legit retailers who have a store and license and pay taxes.
I wonder if someday any of us who sell more than x dollar amount or listings would be required to get a state license
