Have you folks read some of the threads on Ebay Community?
How can Ebay keep asking more people to sign up to buy and sell?
-a lady living in a small rural town went to a general store which has a mail office to ship $3k worth of gold necklace. She packed the necklaces in front of the clerk with a video camera showing she packed and sealed the necklaces.
It arrived and the buyer claimed she received a CD,and won the dispute.
USPS insurance is not going to cover her as it has been delivered and signed for.
-A seller sold a Nikon lens for $700,she needs the money to pay rent ,the buyer claimed internal damage and went ahead and filed USPS insurance,he wont show any picture or details on what is internal damage?
- a buyer bought $1500 item for his father ,he has instructed his post office to forward all his mail to his father's address,
The $1500 item arrived at buyer post office and no more tracking. One may assume it could be bundled together with the rest of his mail and fowarded to his dad's place?
Well, today it shows it has been delivered at the seller address?
-A seller sold an expensive pair of shoes for $899,buyer filed item not as described, returned a dirty comic book and got his money back.
- I can go on and on,buyer returned empty box, seller shipped ???,buyer is still waiting for item paid for 3 months ago, buyer bought from domestic seller but told to return to China.
-A lady saw an Ebay commercial on TV stating it is really easy to sell by using her smart phone,so she sold an item ,but she is mad the commercial did not say anthing about online viewable tracking information, needless to say she lost the dispute.
- A lady wants to do good and looked around the house and sold a few items she may think some one would need, every one she sold she lost money,e.g. a 3 hole punch for $10 and shipping on her dime is $9.95,so where is the beef?she asked/

This is exactly why I'm in the process of opening my own business and get away from this nightmare. I'm having to put so many buyers on my blocked list the list looks like the New York phone book - all 5 boroughs!!

What awful stories!!

I sometimes wonder how JD & Co. can sleep at night knowing what they have turned eBay into over the past few years.

I am glad I no longer sell expensive items and stick to the small inexpensive stuff.

I once sold a $4000 set of sterling. There were 96 pieces. I took it to my local UPS store and had them inspect the pieces for condition, count them and then pack them in front of me. They used their security tape and I had them sign a letter confirming all of this. I didn't have a problem but if I had - I think I would have had a very good case. I forget how much I paid UPS but it wasn't much and was well worth it for the piece of mind.
The post office should have something like this service. I'm sure many people would be willing to pay for it.

the lady who shipped 3k worth of necklaces went to a general store with a mail drop off service inside,I think she did the wrong thing, asking for help to pack the necklaces,
now what does it take to pack some gold chains?
She should have packed them at home and kept her mouth shut.
In a post office, the counter clerk dumped all our packages thru some chutes, back office people dont know if any package has gold and the driver sure does not know.
The gold could have been switched at the general store where all the employees know there is gold in one package and replaced it with a CD.
The buyer could be telling the truth.
You can count your gold or silver and videotaped the event, but if the buyer files dispute with Ebay, you will lose.UPS worker could steal it.
At one time, they will stealing Iphones, buyers were receiving empty box!

selling on EBAY has become too dicey,if the buyer claims the item is not as described, whether it is broken or not working or different color,Ebay will make the seller take back the item and refund the buyer the item and shipping,so the seller lost money on shipping and insurance and get his item back, may be a dirty sock or the original item?.
If you refuse to accept the return,EbAY will just refund anyway and let the buyer keep the item.
Then comes the defects,if a buyer just wants to let you know the item has arrived, and use the 'contact the seller',you get a defect?
When the buyer returns the item, they know they have won the case ,so why bother to pack well, items are returned bent, broken, chipped, dirty, used, and no insurance,so seller eats the loss.

I had the owner of the UPS store pack my sterling and sign the letter. He also signed & dated the security tape. I assume that if the security tape arrived broken - they would not have delivered it. I don't think I would have let one of the employee's do it but the owner would have a lot to lose.

I see your point about the lady. She may have been thinking she was getting help but was asking for trouble.

I sold a lot of scrap gold a few years ago - at least $7000 or $8000 but I did it in small lots of $500 and $600. I would say one guy got almost all of it.

I love the good old days when you could require a money order. It took longer but then if something went south, you didn't have paypal in your pocket.

Lost keeps posting and reposting these old stories... The reality is eBay sellers ship millions of items daily and 99% or more are received and paid for by happy customers.
If a seller is getting more then 2-3% returns and unhappy customers they have a problem. We have little defense against a buyer who makes a fraudulent claim. The overall numbers must be small because eBay has decided its cheaper and better for business to just pay them off. On the other side of the fence eBay still has scores of sellers who's primary business is ripping people off.

Alldings, that is just crap. The whole system is totally open to abuse, with no real oversite and it is NOT ebay paying the price, it is the sellers.

I have been on ebay selling and buying for 13 years. When Ebay changed to no bad feedback for the buyer from the seller, it went right into the shitthole.

Aldings,
I dont recall posting and reposting these old stories,do you have proof I posted these old stories more than once??
I have been on EBAY since 1990s,I haven never seen anything like that.
Back just a few years ago when everyone wants to buy and sell gold, the squabble is seller cheated a few grams, but now they are saying they did not get their gold.
