I have submitted my site to about 6 search engines and the results have been disappointing. Very little traffic.

Racking my brain - I know there was an article online about just this subject not too long ago....I think it might've been on my host's site, fortunecity.com. Take a peek over there if you get a chance.
I can't remember your niche, but you might consider joining a webring or two.

HCQ- thanks for the advice! I will take a peek. This site isn't really in my area of expertise, it's for a friend. He has a Santa-Barbara, California based business dealing with vacation travel.
I've lagged forever on putting up my own site. I'm a little unfocused, which is part of the problem. My site would be "Amy's Barbies, books, clothes, craft supplies, & miscellaneous" I guess. My new passion this week is mosaics. We'll see how long that one lasts.

I have been to websites which sell software to automate the submission to various search engines. The software was also designed to make the submission EFFECTIVE by using certain techniques.
I vaguely recall that it was suggested that your web site be resubmitted to the various search engines regularly (e.g. every 6 weeks).
Unfortunately, I didn't bookmark the software sites. Perhaps you can find them by doing an internet search, trying words like "search engine sumission software".

Thanks, Irene. Very helpful info, as I would never have thought to keep resubmitting a site. I thought once it was done, it was done. How naiive I am about these things!
Wonder if that submission software is affordable. I'll have to research it. Thanks for the tips!

You can submit to oodles of search engines relatively quickly through AddMe.Com: http://www.addme.com/submission.htm
I did it a long time ago for my homepage but haven't since... probably should but it's not top priority. Might help you tho...

Here is a good tutorial about submitting your site to search engines and it DOES suggest you do it often. Also, the author doesn't think much of the submission software and recommends doing it yourself. http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/99/31/index1a.html?tw=e-business

Kiheicat- Thanks for that link! I have actually been to your site. I accessed it through your Ebay auctions though, not from a search engine. MAybe the best way to have a site become visible is to link to it from Ebay. hehehehe. D'ya think so? I must say that your site stood out in my mind as one of the more outstanding personal web pages I have seen. Nice work!! & I'll definitely take a look at the link you suggested. I really appreciate the advice.
