I also have cable and had a few problems at the outset but none recently. They may still have some bugs in their system. Give it another month or so.

I have both a cable modem and regular dial-up and the cable modem system is superior. DSl - I imagine is more or less the same as Cable.

We've had Road Runner cable internet for about a year and a half now. Their service is pretty good, and their email servers are basically stable.
In my newsgroup reading etc, I've seen more complaints about the @home service than any of the cable providers. I don't know what the trouble could be though, unless they are just new to the business and are still struggling with giving good service.
I do have a hotmail address that I have set up to retrieve my RR mail. Perhaps if @home is using POP3 mail, you could do the same thing? Doing this, I can retrieve all my mail from another computer, even my RR mail. I'm not sure if that would solve your problems, but if you had mail waiting on the @home server you could access it through hotmail.
