First, do not respond to him: that will only make matters worse. If you keep receiving letters and it seems that he is getting more obsessed, then seek a lawyer for advice and to have him send a letter to the inmate to stop corresponding.

You will need to send a letter to the Warden of the prison requesting that you receive no further correspondence from that prisoner. Send the letter registered with return receipt requested. This should take care of it.

Send him your picture, with a note reading:

"I'm waiting"

just email me for the picture that you need to send...

HA!

No problem.

Just tell him that you lied about your name and that it's really Brenda. He won't want any more to do with you.

I don't blame you for being concerned, Brandi. Maybe you can call someone at the Department of Corrections anonymously (so they don't automatically go to this guy and rattle his cage). Maybe they have counselors or prisoner relations personnel who can talk to you. Explain the situation in general terms and ask what they feel might be the best way to handle the situation. I'm sure this isn't the first time something like this has happened.

Talk it over with your friends, too, see what they think.

He's probably not a threat but it's best to be safe.

Actually you're right, Spaz. This type of thing happens pretty often. That's why I said to contact the Warden of the prison. They will intercept the prisoner's outgoing mail and pull any letters addressed to her. I was in the same situation years ago with a cousin with whom I had been quite close growing up. He was in Huntsville, and when he wasn't writing letters specifying each and every item he wanted in his next "care" package, he would write letters threatening what he was going to do to whoever that a). was responsible for him being in prison, b). how he was going to get even with those people who were making his life miserable IN prison, c). how he was going to get even with those people that weren't helping him get OUT of prison, or c). what revenge he was going to take on those people who were ignoring his letters that he was writing FROM prison. It got old really fast, and while I could just refuse the "collect" phone calls, I got tired of the harassing letters that followed, as did everyone else in the family. Finally we contacted the Warden and that was that. No more letters.

I will say that he is out now and seems to be doing okay. We've talked a couple of times on the phone after his mom (my aunt) died, and he's never mentioned the letters or the threats. So he must have gotten over it.

I'm afraid I can't add anything to the advice that Spaz and KatyD have already given to you but I just wanted to say that I hope this all works out for you. And, I'm sorry that you had to give up your publication. Maybe it'll come back around for you in the future.

Sometimes the most innocent of friendly overtures are misinterpreted. For your sake I hope the warden makes a believer out of this guy.

Not paranoid anywhere else but here!

If krs is correct, that party fed on attention...good or bad didn't matter much...any kind would do. So, unless you enjoy it...

Well, I'm only good at spotting one OTHER person's multiple personas, so maybe I missed this one. Dunno...

Toke, I thought so too. That "dearly departed" also used the initial "B".

Hi Joice

I am sorry, I wasn't trying to start a conversation about the person that was suspended, I just don't want everyone to think that I AM that person because I am NOT! Sorry for any trouble.
