In April of this year we signed up with Compuserve for our internet access and thought we were getting a good deal with 9.95 a month for limited use, but if you use more it would go to the $19.95 per mo. unlimited use.
As it turns out they say we agreed to 2.00 per hour after the limited use.
We have received one statement since then that was for 9.95. Today my husband just out of curiosity checked on our account status and couldnt believe what he saw!
Our account was a whopping $450.00 for this month so far, and they had just recently withdrawn from our checking account $350.00 for last month!!!
Needless to say we have been on the phone all day with this person and that trying to get this thing straightened out! So far it has done no good.
Advice anyone??? Has anyone else had a similar experience?
Thanks, Debbbie

Limited use of a computer is not a good deal as you have found out.
Compuserve may make an allowance for you since you did not understand the deal...I certainly hope so.
Limited use means that you may use the connection for a certain number of hours and then you are charged for every additional hour above the agreed upon limited use. It does not automatically become unlimited at any time unless you change your contract with Compuserve or any other Internet provider.
So, it's best to always choose the unlimited use option.

Tell them that you no longer want their service and to cancel your account immediately. Do it verbally, by email, by written notice sent registered mail return receipt requested, and fax.
Once done call your card service and notify them that you do not authorize any further payment to them after the date of your notification to them.
Start now, if you haven't.
You'll pay the $800. in all likelihood.

READ the contract.
If you terminate early you probably pay more than if you simply stopped using it and let the terms run out at the lower rate.
Do not expect a deal or to get out of it. Just resove in your heart to counter screw them at any opportunity. I would never advocate anything illegal sso there is nothing more I can say.

well, she can repeat her experience here and anywhere else possible to spread the word on Comp u sneer......
I had a bad experience with them also, about 1 1/2 years ago. I ordered a computer, when it came it was a 'factory reconditioned' model! I screamed and screamed about that.........they finally had to admit the entire brochure I'd been sent did not say any such thing.
but worse....... the 800# I'd been promised for 'phone advice/ service included' had a menu to punch in numerals before you are allowed to speak to a live person. It asked for my model #, then the canned voive said "this model is not covered" and gave me a phone number in Texas to call for service, on my dime, and naturally they are only available prime-time!
Rose, you tell it like it is, every time you get a chance!

Tell two friends
Who will each tell two friends
Who will each tell two friends
AND so on ....
Perhaps if you vow to post the information on every discussion board you find they might see the light ...

I had an account with them (Compuserve) from WAY back. I mean 1980's when they were a service of H and R Block before the tail wagged the dog.
I had someone spoof my account and send out spam in my name using an 800 number to harvest the suckers and leave me to collect the death threats and 641 messages the first day.
When I reported the problem they played stupid like they could not understand how it could not be me mailing this stuff if that is what the header said.
I had to give up an account I had had for over ten years. They did not value my business at all.
I had to track down the spammer and take care of him myself without any help from them at all.

Thanks so much everyone for responding to my frustrating experience.
We still have one last person who might be able to right this if we can get ahold of them in person!!
I will keep you posted as to the final answer. Debbie

This is one of the main reasons that I do not like to have monthly charges automatically charged to my credit card. Once they have your money your almost out of luck.
I wish you the best in this very unfair situation.
Please keep us posted.
