"Instead of paying down $57 billion in debt, as the Treasury had expected on April 30, the Treasury now plans to borrow $51 billion"

To jeopardize medicare and Social Security funds in order to justify a privatization plan is criminal. Shame on the Bush administration!

And the people that got bribed have to pay it back with interest.

PT Barnum would have loved GW.

It's completely ridiculous! The Republicans in Congress and this Republican Administration have been hitting the economy with sledgehammers trying to kill it. They seem to be doing everything that they can to slam us all back into a recession. Maybe what the Democrats keep saying about the Republicans is true: the Republicans really do love recessions. Me, I hate them!

Somebody please pinch me and tell me this isnt 1981. Lets compare Reagan and bush, and anyone can add to it.

Reagan
-wanted ketchep replaced for fruits in schools,

Bush
-wanted to ban salmonella testing for schools

Reagan
-wasted billions on Star Wars

Bush
-wants to spend billions on Star Wars

Reagan wanted ketchup to count as a vegatable.

Reagan also wrote 4 trillion dollars in bad checks to his best buddies and the american people got stuck with the bad check charges.

G. W. is only getting warmed up with this "tax payback"

Lets compare Reagan and bush

One thing I hope (and believe) will be different, is we gave Reagan 8 years to screw up the country.

Lets do a comparison of Reagan Vs. LBJohnson!
LB escalated the V war. He may even have had a hand in the death of JFK. At least that is what one book I read states. I think a president is only as good as his cabinet, the people around him. Ontime

It is verrrry interesting to hear people's reactions as the fact sinks in, that this $300, $600 or such "refund" is actually given to us as an advance on our next year's tax refund!!!!!

And I cannot wait until next April's tax season, when people actually see the effect of this wonderful "gift" on their tax forms! It will Hit The Fan.

Imagine--if you have $600 coming back next year, you'll zero out if you received the $600 "gift" this year. And if you figure you have no refund coming, you'll owe the IRS whatever you receive this year. UNBELIEVABLE.

roadsmith, please tell me that you're joking! No politician in American history would make such a fatal blunder! That just can't be true ... is it?

A federal tax refund is not taxed by the feds, so if you received the $300- 600 tax rebate, the feds won't tax it.

However, if you're someone who didn't receive any of the rebate or a smaller amount, you'll be helping to pay the debt back for the rebates.

Disenfranchise the poor from voting, screw the poor with tax reabtes, no medical coverage, scrap the SS sytem, and send me a check that won't even cover the monthly payment on my BMW.

'Let's screw the helpless'. I beginning to feel more like an ancient Roman everyday.
