I have a daughter (Lucy) who turned 5 a couple of weeks ago. She plays make-believe almost all day. She enjoys playing school, house, restaurant, wedding, and all of those other things that little girls love to play.
Well, it finally happened. A couple of days ago Lucy came to me holding out an imaginary box and said, "Look at the package that the mailman brought me." She then proceded to 'open' it. "Isn't it beautiful?" she asked. After telling her that I LOVED it, she replied, "I bought it on ebay!"

My 3 year old daughter will wander into my office/warehouse part of the house and pick something up. After a few "Please put that down, Kendall" - she now replies "Cause it's old, Mommy?"

bh010296 - How funny. Yes, we (sometimes unknowingly) teach our children at a young age to become consumers, don't we?
I absolutely used to *love* watching the kids on the old Art Linkletter's 'Kids Say The Darndest (sp?) Things'. So funny and enjoyable to see things from their eyes.

My three year old Niece lived with me for a couple of years, once my MIL asked her, Susie when are you going to finish these paper dolls...(of course she was too young to actually cut them out) she walked over to the cabinet that they were on an shuffling them around with her little hands, looked up and said; "Just as soon as I get organized!"
That was my stock & trade answer to Auntie, when are we going to do this, or that or the other.

Another incident, in the late afternoon of a day that had been one disaster after another, (slammed my finger in a drawer, broke a favorite vase, the dog got out of the yard...you get the picture) I turned on the garbage disposal only to hear a terrible metallic clunk...yup I tried to grind up a spoon. Well, the one word that worked as a great cathartic was "S**t* and the Shhh sound started when I realized that somewhere nearby was a darling little girl. Shhh turned to "Sweeet Sunshine"in a tone that implied anything but sweet.
You guessed it, little girl stuck her finger with a safety pin that she found and with all her might delivered "Sweet Shunshine", just like Auntie did!! Thank you lord for helping me avert disaster.

My 4 year old loves Ebay, because he knows that is where I buy things for him. I think he sort of views it as a Toys R Us where they mail stuff to you instead of taking it home with you right away

I have a daughter that just turned 29 (I had her when I was VERY young!), and she started mimicking me as a little girl and to this day she STILL mimicks me. I don't find it at all humorous, either. It's infuriating sometimes because she tends to mimick stuff that I would rather forget that I ever did! Whatever she sees me do, she has to try herself. In fact, the other night I put our Yorkie in my grandson's swimming pool just to see what she would do, and I had to tell my husband not to tell my daughter because then she would have to try it. The only problem is, she wouldn't remember to dry the dog off with a towel and would just let her run in the house all wet. My daughter sees me do stuff on the computer, and then SHE has to do it. She even helped herself to my digital camera without asking, and just by watching me, she figured out how to use it and how to put the pictures on the computer. You'd think by now it would have stopped, but noooo... she still mimicks mommy.

And sometimes you don'g know *where* they get things. My best friend hates shopping and absolutely detests malls. One day we were driving and her four year-old daughter pipes up from the back seat asking if we could go to the mall. "Yeah, right," I laughed. "What's a four year-old going to do at the mall?" She replied quite seriously: "Well, we could go shopping!" Her mother & I stared at her in disbelief. Where did that come from?

I have my eBay stuff on certain shelves in the house. One day I was vacuuming and picked up my 9 year old daughter's toy that was in my way. I put it on my eBay shelf until I could finish cleaning. She came by and saw it there and went into hysterics, ran to her Dad and told him I was selling her toys on eBay! I seized the opportunity to tell her that is exactly what I would do if she couldn't take better care of her things. We had a long talk about appreciating the things we have. She must have been properly traumatized because her room has been fairly clean ever since. Thanks, eBay!
AS FOR THE TWO-YEAR OLD: whenever I leave the house he announces "Mommy go post office!" Yep, they learn fast.
