On the lighter side, here's something somebody sent me awhile back. I don't know who the original author is, I'm afraid.

What Your Choice of Newspaper Says about You:
The Wall Street Journal is read by the people who run the country.
The New York Times is read by people who think they run the country.
The Washington Post is read by people who think they ought to run the country.
USA Today is read by people who think they ought to run the country but don't understand the Washington Post.
The Washington Times is read by people who believe that the country is being run by liars who don't know how to run a country.
The Los Angeles Times is read by people who wouldn't mind running the country, if they could spare the time.
The Boston Globe is read by people whose parents used to run the country.
The New York Daily News is read by people who aren't too sure who's running the country.
The New York Post is read by people who don't care who's running the country, as long as they do something scandalous.
The San Francisco Chronicle is read by people who aren't sure there is a country, or that anyone is running it.
The Miami Herald is read by people who are running another country.
The Boulder Colorado, Daily Camera is read by people who think they live in another country.
The National Enquirer is read by people who believe aliens are running the country.

Very funny.
I was actually able to link some of the posters (as I perceive them) with a newspaper.
My husband would only be interested in the comics page in each of those newspapers. What does that say about him? LOL

Very funny
Femme...I am in the same boat as your husband: I hit straight for the comics, if or when I read a newspaper. I mostly listen to NPR...and they have NO comics (exept for some guest-star politicians... )
The San Francisco Chronicle is read by people who aren't sure there is a country, or that anyone is running it....
This reminds me that there will be an Anti-War protest in Berkeley today...And the Berkeley Fire Dpt. has been asked to [temporarily] remove the over-sized "Old Glory" flying at the back of their trucks (stores are out of the smaller ones..) because the Police is afraid the Berkely population might get...hmmm...carried away... That's Berkeley for you...

I mostly listen to NPR
That gets most of my listening time also. "The Morning Edition", "All Things Considered" are staples for me as far as information goes. "Car Talk" (hilarious), "Whattayaknow" and "Prarie Home Companion" are shows I love for my Saturday entertainment.

Actually the protest at Berkley today is about a cartoon which depicted the terrorists in Hell.
Apparently many Muslim students have decided that this should not have been printed in the paper and are demanding an apology.

A few of my favorite newspapers are on your list...The Washington Post because we subscribe to it and live in the Washington area...The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.
I like to read a couple of papers in England for a less biased view of the news here and it's also interesting to read newspapers worldwide to learn different viewpoints.
Yesterday, for example, I found a news related Islamic chat board in Australia which was very interesting.

This is a very sensitive time...
American wacko TV evangelist are ridiculed in political cartoons: we are not and have not been at war with these Evengelists or whatever.
Now, we are about to embark on a war with a great number of Muslims, so of course, ANY Arabic person living in America would feel slighted, because so many are already being viewed as potential terrorist sympathisers...
We need to be a little more sensitive to people's pain...We also need to stop attacking, including verbally, and KILLING certain people just because they wear a turban...
Things start innocently enough, but have a way of escalating into bigotry, then violence...

If you check this page, you will find that the Washington Post, The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times are all frequently winners of the Pulitzer Prize.

I have deleted your post. There is a link to the article and there is no need to post the cartoon that is causing the controversy.

shoshanah,
The cartoon was an attack on bigotry and violence. I'm sorry you felt the cartoonist was attacking all Muslims, I for one didn't. Neither did the paper as they refused to issue an apology. How many Muslims would be rejoicing in hell with a flight manual at their side?
------
Since my post was removed with the cartoon in dispute I should point out that shoshanah's quote wasn't complete.
American wacko TV evangelist are ridiculed in political cartoons (and rightly so)
To the best of my knowledge THAT is what I posted.

And so it begins. Freedom of speech is the first to go. Cartoons are being protested against and here on AW cartoons are being womded. Why? Because it might offend the terrorists who took over 6,000 American lives last week. Heaven forbid we should accidently offend one of the Taliban's operatives in California or here on AW. I guess the terrorists can chalk up another victory.

uaru...I believe these are two separate demonstrations...One on Campus, because of the nasty cartoon; the other to be held in the streets, where no large flag may be displayed on fire trucks...which could add fuel to a volatile situation...

I can hardly believe that at this time in America's history, people are not allowed to display their American Flags any where and any place they desire, especially firefighters on firetrucks. That is so very wrong.

That measure was adopted only for the duration of the anti-war protest. New, smaller flags, will be purchased and displayed on fire trucks as soon as the flags arrive (there is a shortage, as you know).
EDITED because I did not express myself well, and what I say will continue to be misconstrued.

You know what? I have several flags and I'm sure that others might could spare some too. How about you find out what size flag the firemen are allowed to display and the address for the fire department. I think perhaps if people know that firemen do not have flags they will be more than happy to help out. If anybody deserves the freedom to fly their national flag at this time in history, it is the firemen. True American Hero's!!!!
This really bothers me. It is like a slap in the face to those brave men who risk their lives for the public.

The sad part is that this was done with the best of intentions. People wishing to protect other people. All the talk of losing our freedoms and this is exactly how it happens. Little by little and no one caring and some even cheering.

So the Bezerklians are afraid that protesters will harm fire fighters displaying flags on their trucks?
Really now... Have not any of the Sandalista mob taken the time to notice that a firetruck comes equipped with matching racks of yery large and mean looking AXES...
Still wish to traispe over to the nearest truck and snatch down Old Glory?
I can also unsterstand the concern that a 6'4" 220 pound fireman would get pummeled by a violent mob consisting of 140 pound Medieval Icelandic Poetry majors...
I think the canard about the size of the flag is merely an indication of furious backpedaling going on. One can almost hear the distintive beep beep one hears when a Berkely Farms milk truck backs up...
BTW, I am granted the priviledge to lambaste the citizens (term used loosely) since I live 20 miles from them -- in fact was born there a long, long time ago. They are an embarrasment to the State of California, which in itself says a great deal...
