A pretty shallow topic for a Monday mornin'....Cleanin' out my linen closet this weekend, it quickly became apparent to me that I have "WAY" too many sheets/blankets, a fact that SHOULD have been evident simple by the fact that I could no longer close the linen closet door! Then I began to wonder what the average number of sheets (fitted/flat set) folks have per bed. And of course it was just natural to ask you all. So, I ask you, per bed, how many sheets do you have? How about blankets, how many of those do you have? Pls note: these questions are posed to the general populus, and not those who collect linens, you are welcome to reply, simply separate your everyday usage sheets from you collectable sheets.

TIA

3 King sets but they are the 360 thread per inch egyptian cotton that wear like iron and feel nice. I got them for about $50 @ and they are $400.00 sets. We have a lot of blankets and sheets for a twin but remember this - if you evey have a house full desend on you in an emergency and end up with people sleeping on the floor and in the chairs you will be happy to have them.
Also space blankets and wool blankets in the car trunks.

Hubby and I have a King Size bed, and I have 2 sets of sheets for it. The kids each have a twin size bed, and I think I have 7 sets all together for them. 3-4 of those are really getting thin, so it's time to pick up some new ones.

As far as blankets go, each bed has one good blanket, and there are 2-3 older ones in the linen closet. I also have a couple of old quilts that don't get used much because of their age.

Two sets of cotton sheets.

Three blankets. Unfortunately, the only blankets you can find these days are the cotton thermal variety or those "foam" types (can't remember what they're called). I prefer wool blankets, but they're impossible to find around here--I have one left that an aunt gave me years ago and it's getting pretty worn.

Two comforters.

Seven sets for the one bed in the house. The ones that feel like tshirt material are my favorite. The cool cotton blends are great for August (our one month of summer) and the flannel ones are great for the cold WA winters.

This thread is making me want to go back to bed.

Funny you should ask....just a month ago I sent a 24lb parcel post box to my niece who has 5 to 7 kids (combinded family) living at home at any given time. So my linen closet is
the lightest it has ever been for towels and bed clothes.

3 Queen sets
3 Double bed sets
6 Twin sets (2 beds)
1 Blanket each
1 Comfortor each

Couple extra blankets on top shelf closet.

If really cold we provide warm purring furries! (all our friends are cat lovers!)

Bunnicula - There are tons of wool blankets on eBay starting at around $10.00.
I just bought a Cherokee arts and craft blanket myself. Beautiful green with yellow pattern woven in for $35.00.

Rancher

Like you, I have too many!!!

With my kids grown and gone I have unused bedrooms and I need to get rid of a lot of stuff but I have some difficulty trashing anything.

It's interesting to go to estate sales in the Washington area and see that we are not alone with this problem. Some of these sales are moving sales and most people just get up and go...leaving everything behind.

Uh oh, I am WAY WAY over the average!!! Guess I better stop cursing my house builder, seems they didn't build a closet too small, I'm just tryin' to cram 3 homes worth o' stuff into it! YIKES!!!

I am ashamed to admit these are my totals:
1 King Bed - Bedding = 14 Fitted sheets + 10 Flat sheets
3 comforters / 1 summer comforter / 1 bedspread
6 King Size pillows

3 Twin Beds - Bedding = 17 fitted sheets + 18 Flat sheets
5 comforters / 1 bedspread

1 Double Bed - Bedding = 3 fitted sheets + 3 Flat sheets
1 comforter

Blankets stowed everywhere! Two trucks full, 4 in my van, 5 in the linen closet, 1 on each couch in the den + my very special horse hair blanket on the couch in the LR.

Gravid if you evey have a house full desend on you in an emergency and end up with people sleeping on the floor and in the chairs you will be happy to have them. I think that emergencies are why I keep so many, but I'm starting to doubt that wisdom!

Hjw With my kids grown and gone I have unused bedrooms and I need to get rid of a lot of stuff I WISH I had that excuse, all my kids are still here!!...but I have some difficulty trashing anything. Me TOO!!!....Hey, why don't you wrap up a few sets & give them to the kids, with a little note something like "thought you might like to keep these for the memories!"

bunnicula...Your response cost me $35!!!....I immediately ran to eBay to check out the market on wool blankets & found one I "just had to have"!.....

Thank you all for enlightening me!....I'm preparing for my MEGA garage sale this weekend & I do believe that I will be adding a few sheet sets to the "to be sold" pile!

Sweet Dreams!

Sheets

For my own king-sized bed I have two sets of sheets, one which is white standard sheet material, and the other which is purplish t-shirt material. Hubby likes the t-shirt sheets, but I like the white sheets. Since I'm the official "Linen Mistress" of the household, guess which ones we use?

We also have two sets of sheets for our full-sized guest bed, but they were both originally bought for a queen-sized futon (which we used before buying a "real" bed), so they're queen-sized. One has small blue and white stripes in traditional sheet material (I love those), and the other is green flannel. We don't actually own any full-sized sheets.

Then there are a few miscellaneous old flat sheets in our linen closet, which I must have packed off to college with me way back when.

Blankets

We have one comforter and one blanket on our bed; ditto in the guest room. I hate the comforter in the guest room, and I want to replace it as soon as I get new carpet in there. There are a few miscellaneous blankets in the closet, including an old afghan I bought at an auction. My favorite (and only) quilt -- also an auction item -- also "lives" on the guest room bed.

Towels

Way too many of these suckers. We only have one "good" set of towels (powder blue), and three sets of marginal towels (dark blue, green, and burgundy) which get those little fuzzballs all over them. Plus two partial sets of towels which I took with me to college -- like the miscellaneous flat sheets -- and a couple of horrid salmon-colored towels my husband acquired sometime before we met.

The only reason I keep all those towels around is in case of a major water leak!

Uh-Oh.
The true shop-a-holics among us can no longer hide.
Our bed (king):
3 flat, 9 fitted, 2 comforters, 5 light blankets, 2 quilts.
The boys beds (2 twin):
4 flat, 12 fitted, 6 light blankets, 2 comforters, 2 quilts, 9 "woobies".
I cannot even begin to count the number of pillows or pillowcases we have in all shapes and sizes.
I don't like to use a top sheet (my feet get all tangled up in it and it makes for a cranky morning!)

We have one set of sheets per bed and five blankets per bed plus a quilt per bed. (Cold winter nights require more, especially since we only have the one heater in the living room LOL!)

Ideally we'd like two sets of sheets per bed so that we can air dry the sheets instead of dryer dry them.

It's just one full size bed for me and DH. Sheets - I don't even want to count. I have a thing about matching sheets. The sheets on the bed HAVE to match. Well, I counted. I have 10 sets of sheets. Believe me, I'm no neat freak but I try to coordinate my sheets with the seasons. HUH? Did I say that? I'm weird. Towels - I think about 6 good ones and no they don't match each other but they do match the bathroom. As far as bedspreads, we have 1 quilt.

More than I care to count. I purchased many sets of organic cotton sheets when they were on sale a few years ago. They now cost a fortune.

There is nothing like an organic flannel sheet in the winter. They feel like butter against your skin. Love it. On the other hand, it is very hard to get out of bed in the morning.

Uh-oh, I guess I'm a shop-a-holic too.
We have 4 sets of flannel sheets, 6 sets of percales, 4 blankets & one comforter that hasn't been on the bed in years (we live in the desert, don't ask why we have 4 blankets...LOL). All for one queen size bed. Doing an inventory reminded me I need some pillow cases and one top sheet. My dog has a thing for chewing them up.

I bought three new sets about a month ago bringing the total for our bed to five. I guess I have about two wool blankets, one comforter, and a couple small throws which we use while watching TV in the winter. We also have several mismatched sheets we've saved to use with the folding bed and air mattress.

Glad you're asking now rather than a couple of years ago. Moving to a home half the size we had lived in forced me to get rid of the un-needed extras, including the extra beds and their linens.

Now we only have two beds. King (for us) & queen in the guest bdrm.

Two sets of flannels for the king.
Four sets of sheets for the king.
Two sets of sheets for the queen.

Blankets = Winter (1), summer (1) and two quilts for the guest bed.

Winter (1), summer (we only sleep with sheets) and two quilts for the king.

Then we have several quilts I've made or purchased over the years. Couldn't give those up.

And Rancher you think you've got linen closet problems? We bought a home that had recently been custom built. Didn't realize until moving in that THERE IS NO LINEN CLOSET!!!! Coat closet, 3 bdrm. closets (large walk-in closet in master bdrm), beautiful oak cubboards everywhere....kitchen, side entry, large washroom with plenty of storage....but NO LINEN CLOSET.

Zoomin -- there's nothing like crisp linen sheets fresh from a day in the sun. Or that's my thinking anyway. I've always found sheets from the dryer to be too soft -- go figure.

[i]Barbkeith[/b] -- my momma raised me with sheet set matching the seasons; I still remember fondly the deep orchid and moss green sheet set I was allowed to use only in the autumn, the flannel sheets that were just for winter time. Ah, memories.

Can you believe that this very question as been on my mind and I didn't have the courage to ask?

Mine looks like Rancher's. I must do something.
T

Towels? We USE about 8 a day. I have a LOT just in case I don't want to wash. I must have a hundred.

But DISH TOWELS! There are usually 7-10 in a pile on the cabinet by the end of the day. I have even put paper in the drawer that says "NO! NO! NO!" but everyone moves the paper and gets a new towel anyway.

*rolls eyes* My life is laundry and dishes.

Glad to see I'm not the only one! Whenever there is a clearance sale, I pick up sheets.

I have for our queen sized bed 9 sets of sheets, 5 blankets, 3 throws(my feed get cold sometimes) 4 mattress covers and 18 pillow ticks(or covers), 1 bed cap, which is like a comforter, but is fitted for a platform bed. Was never able to find another, so it stays on the bed all year long, except when it's at the cleaners. Maybe I should check ebay for that too!

For the twin bed I have 12 sets of sheets. I always find cute cartoon characters and just have to buy them.(plus I have one set of "vintage" new kids on the block my mom passed along! :P)8 blankets, 8 comforter sets with matching pillow shams, dust ruffles and curtains.

For the baby's crib I must have at least 36 sheets, half of which are still in the package. 3 comforter sets with dust ruffles and matching mobile and I don't know how many sheet protectors(they are this rubbery type material covered with cotton to protect the sheet if the baby spits up. I don't know the true name, but they work great at not having to change a crib sheet in the middle of the night!)

For the sofabed(That we no longer have) I have 4 sets of queen size sofabed sheets. I think I can get rid of them, ya think?

And let's not even talk about towels!
