Tonight is the premiere of the new Star Trek series, "Enterprise", on UPN. Set 100 years BEFORE the original Star Trek series, it chronicles mankind's first attempt at intersteller exploration [with the help of the Vulcans]. It stars Scott Bakula of "Quantum Leap" fame, and I think it has a chance of being very entertaining. There's no "Prime Directive" yet [or even a Federation, for that matter], so hopefully they won't resolve every conflict by talking the aliens to death.

It'll be *YEARS* before that gets to Europe.

Post a review afterwards please It'll be January before I'm in the US to view it for myself.

julie321: Bummer! My best friend lives in Hong Kong, and he's in the same boat. So I have promised to record every episode and periodically mail him the tapes....

I won't be seeing it because I refuse to pay what they want for cable here and be insulted with poor service.

Sounds good.
Maybe we can finally hear them say:
"That's an ugly looking one men, phasers on kill."

I will watch it, because I am a lifelong fan of Star Trek,
but the biggest appeal to me will always be the "cheesiness" of the original.

If you wear a red shirt when you beam down to a planet...you gonna die

LOL

gravid: Errr... it's not actually on Cable TV. It's on UPN, which is one of the new networks. In Boston, it's Channel 38.

It was aired on Canadian TV last night (2 hrs). I forgot to watch it. I'll have to catch it on UPN tonight.

Of course, I'm gonna watch it! I've been a fan from the very beginning.

Of course it will be on in our house, provided I remind someone that it is tonight.
He does have a tendancy to remember after it is over even though he is dying to see it.
It could be entertaining.....

I was so looking forward to the new series when they announced it would be launched...until I found out it was on UPN. We have cable in our area and UPN is offered, unfortunately it is the ONLY station that is "captured" by our cable company via antenna and the reception is awful! To the point it is pretty much unviewable after 7:00PM CST.

I was counting on my son recording it for me because they get it in as good as the other channels (he recorded Voyger for me), but he and his wife just lost their jobs and they will be moving "back home" for awhile so NONE of us get to watch it. Bummer....

I think the Gene Roddenberry machine has run out of gas. I watch Earth Final Conflict and what a disaster that is. Also watch Andromeda, which is okay as filler but nothing beyond that. Previously we had Voyager and Deep Space Nine, both of which had glimmers of inspiration but ultimately no pay off.

It's time to put it to bed.

Wish I COULD watch it, but DirecTV doesn't offer UPN. And our cable service is so horrible that it's not worth paying for.

By the way, TNN is having a five-day Star Trek: Next Generation marathon starting (I believe) on October 1. You better believe I'll be setting my VCR!

If anyone tries to talk to me from 8PM to 10PM tonight --they'd better be careful. My phaser is set on stun---I think.

Absolutely... Hope it's more like the original format...I haven't liked the latest incarnations. Too many slick gimmicks for my taste. They could really use a story for a change.

Definitely going to watch it, remaining hopeful that it will be worth it. Been a fan for many years, was kind of disappointed that Voyager demised without a great resolution I felt. But this will be nice, serves as a good break from the onslaught of CNN stuff I've been ingesting this month.

The only thing about this new series that disappoints me right off, though, is that it involves a Klingon, humankind's first contact with one.

I would have thought they could have been more inventive, and discovered something really overlooked, like, say, a Canadian...

Temperal paradoxes do require some thought.

Is "Admiral Janeway" still in the Delta Quadrant?

Hmmmm... Interesting choice of a theme song. Not at all what i was expecting.

gravid: I shall rejoice with you!

microbes: Nope, she and her crew made it home in the finale. That was the only episode I watched after the first 5 or 6.

Oops! Commercial's over....

Oh my gosh! One of the Vulcans is Gary Whatshisname -- he was the star of the "Alien Nation" TV series on FOX....

Im really hoping that they will discover new "aliens" and interact with them more on a one to one basis, instead of having storylines between the crew. If I wanted a soap opera, I would watch the ones on daytime TV. It got to where thats all it was...shipboard romances. I want adventure. I want them to BOLDLY GO WHERE NO MAN HAS GONE BEFORE. I want excitement of monsters and aliens, not the excitement found between the sheets on deck.

Hepburn: Well so far we've got oodles of aliens. They finally corrected the poor English of the previous series, though -- it's now "to go boldly..."

I'm just thrilled that there's no damn holodeck in this series! The most dangerous object in the known universe, and they started relying on it as a plot device way too often.

Hmmm... I just learned that Vulcan women apparently don't wear bras.

The cheesecake factor is a bit higher than I was expecting. Not that I'm complaining, mind you, but it's a bit... distracting.
