Has anyone else found themselves feeling sick, not just emotionally in the last few weeks. More than usual. I have had either sniffles, fever, headaches, sore throat, musle pain or all of the above since the bombings.
Is this affecting anyone else this way? My husband (who is never sick) has been getting headaches to. Most of my friends have been sick too.

YES. And depressed too. Right now I have a migraine, but I was expecting this one.
Not my name on ebay.

Maybe I took your meaning wrong. My apologies, Tegan.

tegan, I don't think it's unusual for people to become physically ill when they're under a lot of stress - the mind/body connection. Our immune systems are probably weakened. I'm running on auto-pilot right now. My father is dying, my favorite pet died - I've just kept on doing what has to be done from day to day for about a year now. I'm sure it'll all come home to roost one day. So far I've avoided getting sick, but that's kind of unusual.

That's right! There is a very good book about stress related disease by Hans Selye,
"The Stress of Life".

Stress not only lowers resistance to disease but it can exacerbate whatever disease you may already have.

And heaven knows, we have all had stress lately!

Hope you are feeling better soon, Tegan!

Everyone around here has allergy related illnesses right now. The ragweed count is so high it's a news item.

Of course, the terrorists may have planted the ragweed....

Stress can make your hormones rise and fall (making you feel awful) and can make your blood sugar fluctuate. I have been feeling the stress BIG TIME. And yes, stress, over time will make me feel like I have the flu. I can even predict it.

Strangly, Moni and the kids have had just that what you explained since the incident.

I've been lucky so far.

You would be suprised what heavy stress and fear can do to a body over a short period of time.

many people where I work have been complaining of illness many with cold and alergy type things..

Another "war" related stress occurred during World War 11 when veritable epidemics of "air-raid ulcers occurred in people living in some of the heavily blitzed cities of Great Britain.

According to Selye, after an intense bombardment, an unusual number of people would appear at the hospital with bleeding gastric or duodenal ulcers which developed virtually overnight.

All kinds of digestive problems are stress realted...Everyone is probably familiar with
loss of appetite and other gastrointestinal problems related to stress.

Kido had a 24 hour stomach virus after LEAVING THE HOUSE to go to Chuck E. Cheese with 99 little daycare hoodlems running around.

Hubby has a bad back.

I feel fine. Have there been unusual checkered contrails in your area lately?
We get them all the time. Black helicopters flying low too. I think "they" are watching us.

Gravid,

You have mentioned that your mother-in-law whom is suffering from Alzheimer's is living with you.

I was young when my grandfather passed away, but he went through several years of Alzheimer type behavior (they just called it senility then - didn't realise it was a seperate and different disease).

Anyhow, I just want to pass along my respect for you and your wife, taking on your MIL's care.

It is a lot of work, a lot of stress, but it is very nice to see families pull together.

I do hope you have some system for respite in place, so you and your wife can have some time alone.

Best to you all.

Driveby...on my way to bed. But I wanted to answer you, Tegan. I took your initial post in another way, and Im ashamed of myself for not THINKING before posting. It was rude of me, and I would like to leave it at that, if I may. It was not nice, and my only excuse is, I took what you posted wrong because my mind was on other things that I was sure you were refering to. In short, I was an idiot.

Going to bed now. The date with your other half sounds fun. Maybe thats what I need to do. Actually, we are talking about going to the mountains soon to look at property. Maybe I will come back as a non idiot after getting away for awhile

Thanks Canuck - We get an occasional afternoon off. One son and one grandson will come about every 6 weeks and take her for a weekend afternoon.
None will keep her overnight. She had 3 sons.
One has crippling arthritis so bad I don't expect him to do anything. The other is such a snake I wish we still had the duel so I could put a ball between his beady little eyes. The last is oldest and does care in his own way but is limited in what kind of wattage his bulb will pull. He can not understand a lot of her behavior. He will do things like drop her off and drive away assuming she will come to the door and let herself in, and that is not a given.
The snake has two sons that could not be more unlike their father. I feel bad for them because he is a huge embarrasssment to them.

Dang Hepburn..you mean I missed my chance at a witty retort.
Probably a good thing I haven't been feeling too witty lately.
The date was fun and even more so because it was his idea. (very rare thing)
Even losing can be fun when your with someone you love.We laughed all the way home.
