That's funny ... I read (have a subscription) for De Volkskrant and don't remember articles like that.

Did I miss the announcement for a contest that challenges AW posters to scour the world's newspapers for articles that tend to support their (the posters') personal point of view?

Hey, at least they're reading international newspapers.

I'm not trying to make a statement, I just happen to live there The NY Times, wall street journal, and USA today are almost the only US newspapers read. USA today speaks for itself (I wouldn't read it to get a serious view of world events) and for the size of the NY times, I'd rather save some paper and read it online. There are other US papers, but these three are the ones that can be delivered. The others can only be picked up in the center of the city from news stands.

Julie: Where in the Netherlands do you live? We spent four years in Uden, a town not far from Veghel or Eindhoven. We loved it there(except when the farmers were spreading the manure on their fields. GAH! ).

I've been living in Amsterdam for 8 years.
I think the whole country smells like manure during April/May

It would get so bad that we couldn't have the windows open at night(something about the night air seemed to intensify the stench). But we had it easy-we had friends who lived near pig farms...skunks would be like Chanel #5 compared to that assault on the nostrils.

I'm trying to think of a word worse than "stench" but my mental thesaurus isn't working...

Stench does it for me Shadowcat reek or stink would not sound as refined!

My dad raised hogs when I was young...never knew til I was in my teens what the town thought about it in July and August.

We did have plenty of bacon, ham and pork roast...to the point where it took many many years as an adult before I bought pork.
