Please forgive me for asking, but what exactly is everyone referring to in terms of "staying until the very end," "we will miss you," etc.? Is AW going out of business or something?

as of midnight tonight--if you wish to post on the AW message boards you need to have a CC# registered with AW. This is whether you use their paid services or not.
The moderators are all being layed off as of midnight tonight--because the boards will now be unmoderated--AW feels that everyone will be verified via their CC# and will somehow behave .
Using a CC# for verification of identity is illegal in many places

Ah ha. Well I can see the pros and cons of that. It's fine by me, as I am a seller with the auction service. Not such a good deal for the friends who just chat here. Oh well. Good luck to everyone.

Many of the people who 'CHAT' here are also very experienced online auction people with vast amount of knowledge and have spent many volunteer hours sharing that knowledge with others.
Just because they do not use AW's services--does not mean they were not a valuable asset for AW to retain.

No, AW is not going out of business. As for registering a credit card, that will be up to each individual. Many people already have their credit card registered at AW.
And I suspect that many of the people who are howling that they are leaving AW for good will come back under one name or another. They always do. Some of them have indignantly manifestoed from AW multiple times, and each time, it is "for good". A few weeks later, they're back. Often using a new ID. Bah.

And then there are those that use a new ID just so they can stir up double-trouble

People secretly love manifestoes. I've had a rough draft going for almost four years but it's still not perfected. Left once briefly, emailed Diana and had my name stricken from the roster and all that, but it was all done without manifesto. Very unsatisfying. So I had to return and continue to work toward my masterpiece. There are no shortcuts to message board immortality.

Most of the people that have a CC on file with AW are using their service.
The ones that don't are providing a service.
AW should pay THEM.

In the 7 months I have been Hepburn, I have to say I am THRILLED that maui lost the title of queen of manifestos. Many others have taken that title in the past few months, and I am pleased to pass on the crown to them.

KATY
I may have to break down and ask for your help, katy. You're sharp and creative and very articulate, so I know that I could trust your critical judgment and literary advice. If we can work out an agreement on copyright, licensing, and royalties. I'm thinking that as many people on the internet who post somewhere, but are too busy or uninspired to whip out good ones, there's a business future here. I'd like others' input, too, but I'm not sure that a corporation's quite in the making yet.
Robin and I tried to get something going with the online ordination business once, but I think that we lacked sufficient faith to carry us through. Unless she has a profitable little side business going that she's kept secretive.
