I'm curious about something.

What "evil" things can anyone do if they find out your IP number, other than finding out that you're posting under more than one ID (if you are)?

So many people seem outraged at a perceived invasion of privacy if an IP number is posted. I don't understand. It's not like publishing an address or phone number which could lead to unwanted real life contact. An IP on its own doesn't tell anyone anything about you does it (except perhaps general geographic location)?

if your on cable or DSL and someone wants to they can hack into your computer if they have your IP they can Hijack your computer .

And use it to do all kinds of dirty deeds on the internet..

Dman3: So it's fear of having one's computer hacked that causes people to feel that their IP number should be kept private... I guess I'm doomed. Thousands of people have my IP number because of auction-related transactions alone.

Irene, it's just one of the silly paranoias that people engage themselves with. Like black cats crossing your path.

Here's the signature of one of my posts in another forum. Everyone's IP is displayed right there on the screen for anyone to see.

Go for it, hackers. LoL!

If you study the headers in an email of mine you'll see that the same sequence appears there and does in every email I send or respond to using this machine.

It's an address--same as the one on your house.

That's what I thought, Ken.

If anyone wanted to be truly anonymous when posting, all they would have to do is use an anonymizer.

It gives people something to complain about, Irene.

Maybe I'm naive about computer security issues. I have used the same internet provider for several years and after posting my email address here and on my auctions etc. I have never had a problem.

On one occasion, I even posted my name and address on the round table. LoL!

Several people here know my family, where I was born and where I have lived. My life is an open book and I really don't have a problem with that.

Like you, Irene, I have read about the problem that several people are discussing and I really don't understand that concern.

Oh! By the way, I should correct one statement that I made in the nekkid thread....that I had experience dancing in a cage hanging from the ceiling. Some people might not reaslize that I was just trying to add to the burlesque fun going on at that time. It's not really true.

LoL

I assure you Helen...there is nothing bitty about me any more. (It was a childhood name and I have decided I really hate being called Bitty Bug now just as much as I did then...but am too lazy to wanna change my name.

BTW...Mr. AW Guy sent me an email...said now you do or you don't want the info remived

The GC building our house told me tonight that I had ta stop "doing that" (I changed my mind about the kitchen floor). I laughed. Pointed out it was kinda like cards...a floor laid is a floor played and it is not down yet. I got my way. Suppose I better leave it this way now.
Please call me Charlotte so I don't have ta change my ID.

Charlotte,

I'll never use that other name again. You should tell Mr. AW Guy that you obviously haven't made a decision yet.

....I almost left that day also because I didn't think that someone should have their posting priviledges removed.

Keep everybody guessing but please don't leave here.

Helen,

I prefer to think of it as a very original manifesto rather than posts causing a suspension.

As far as manifestos go, I think it will be almost impossible for anyone else to top it.

Irene,

Well, if that was a manifesto, it certainly was tops. I understand that she does everything with class.

When I first started reading here, I remember that she did a very helpful thread on pictures and smiles and html help.
