Same old story, let the little people take the financial loss. You would think just once they would do the right thing and say no. But, of course, they will be helping the economy by spending more at their local merchants.
I got notification from Social Security today that I got a raise too. $120 more a year, but I'm still under $10,000. Yipee!

Let's see. They each get a $4,900 raise and you get $120. They get $150,000 a year and you get $10,000. Something is wrong in this country where our public servants can give themselves large raises and give the people who pay them nothing. Our system is really screwed up. Priorities are all out of skew.

Actually, it's closer to $9000. When I worked for the county we had to fight for raises, and our benefits got lower and lower.
Then when the job made me sick I couldn't even fight them because it was the government.

yea sure enough chemicals. Burned my throat so bad I couldn't talk for a month. Lungs so bad I couldn't walk more than a few feet. Took a long time to get better but still disabled.
Still makes me mad when I think how I had to fight them though. Couldn't even get a lawyer because they knew it was a losing battle. The government is never in the wrong. You should have seen how their big San Francisco lawyers were.
But, even though I'm sick a lot of the time, I'm happy to be home, I get to spend more time with my grandson and animals. It's a different life but a good life all in all.
Government jobs are only good if you're way at the top. If you're just a peon you get kicked harder than if you work in the general work force.

Most jobs I've worked, you get an evaluation before you get a raise. If you don't score satisfactory or higher on almost all the criteria, no money. But Congress has no evaluation, they can just vote themselves a raise. Sweet deal. You have the right to an informed opinion -Harlan Ellison

If I were doing the evaluation right now, most of them would be applying for unemployment benefits. What a wimpy bunch of crooks who can't even protect the Constitution of the United States of America.

Ugh. It's too early in the day for me to get pissed off.
Chococake, a friend of mine worked for the city of Berkeley. (You'd think *that* would be a worker-friendly sort of place, right? WRONG!) Her back was broken in a work accident. She had to sue the city to get re-trained (she couldn't do her former job with a broken back, duh) and then had to sue them to get the job they re-trained her to do.

Plsmith, That is interesting. We had a thread about it here somewhere.
Chococake, I am sorry to hear that. I too left my job because of a chemical exposure although mine was long term and did not cause me as much trouble as yours appears to have. It did make me unable to work for a long time and I still have trouble from it and there are things I cannot do. Well, anyway I can empathize with your situation. Chemicals in the workplace are rarely handled properly and I think that women are affected more readily than men because of our makeup.

Here is the thread Pat. I didn't have to look to far down the page to find it.Not like the old days where it would have been three pages away

Then republicans think its a crime to raise the minimum wage. Greedy corporations like walmart get their merchandise made labor free, pay low wages, and low taxes. Must be nice.
