If so, what do you think about it? The only (vaguely) similar court case in recent years has been the Mary Kay LeTourneau trial
Are these predators just a symptom of a society gone wild, or is their behavior something that's been with us for decades and gone unnoticed/unprosecuted?

I think it has gone unnoticed. There are many that believe that a teenage boy initiated sexually by an older woman is a rite of passage, not a crime. Then there is the good old Victorian double standard that a teenage female must remain chaste. I imagine in this case many fathers would give a wink and the old saying ' that's my boy, buy him books, send him to school, and he $%#^& the teacher'.
It hasn't been that long ago that a teenage son of a man of means would be taken by his father to a whorehouse for sexual initiation.
But it shouldn't be going on between students and teachers in any event.
After reading the link, it looks like the evidence is pretty shaky too.
I guess I am a bit chauvinist too. If my 15 year old son was having sex with a female teacher, I would probably insist that it cease, but I wouldn't look at it as a criminal act. If it were my daughter, it would be a different story.

Please lets remember that there are MILLIONS of teachers in the U.S. and when you have Millions of anything, you are going to have some nuts in the mix. This goes up with the dentists who rape women after giving them gas. Sure it happens, but it is a microscopic minority that participates in these actions.
