Hi, I could use some ideas please. I've just recently gotten hooked on the Franciscan Desert Rose tableware but know less than nothing about decorating.
Anyone have any suggestions on what type of silverware would go nicely with this pattern?
I like simple.

Hi! Here's some free advice! If you like simple, GET simple silverware. The only rule of thumb I'd follow is that if Desert Rose has lots of curves in its design, (haven't seen it in a long time), don't get silverware that is angular. And vice versa. There are many very simple patterns to choose from, and I happen to like simple things too.

My one regret: If I had it all to do over again, I would never register for STERLING silver. It's used so seldom and really can't go in the dishwasher, then it needs polishing, etc. I've suggested to both my daughters that they pick a nice silver-plated pattern they like, and they have. It saves a TON of money, and the odds are that any daughters YOU may have won't want your silver later on and will want to pick their own.

Of course, I also wouldn't have a big church wedding! I'd have 30-40 of my closest friends at a small but lovely ceremony. Too often I think people are invited just for the gifts or the show, or because the parents want to throw a big party.

Two of our three children took our advice and had a wonderful time in their own backyards with just good friends and family. The third had the traditional wedding with all the trimmings; she had to start planning it a year ahead and broke down hysterically in tears many times before it was all over. But I digress. . . .

What great advice! I paid dearly with experience, stress and money to appreciate the wisdom of your advice. If I had my life to live over again there would not be one piece of silver in my house. I have already given away as much as I can.

And I would like to look out into my back yard and remember a happy wedding!

Helen, Thank you for the compliments.

I've also noticed that silver trays and other silver items, typical wedding gifts, go for just a couple of dollars each at auctions, and sometimes the auctioneer has to combine them with other things to clear them out. My own daughters and DIL don't want the stuff I have, and I have a large cedar chest full of Aunt Dorothy's really heavy gorgeous silver things that I haven't unpacked since she died 6 years ago.

A friend once suggested I donate trays to the local political party of my choice for them to use at election-night parties and other get-togethers. Not deductible, but I guess helpful IF they have slave labor around to polish the dang stuff!

Hi Roadsmith,
Thanks so much for the advice. I never thought about the angles & also the silverplate. I do have some of my Grandmothers silver & it does tarnish.
Simple it is.
