Some lunatic had to spoil the holiday for many by killing someone at the El Al ticket counter at LAX. A security guard killed the perpetrator and they are trying to determine if it is a terrorist incident.

Truly sad.

Apparently there was one gunman. The gunman and the victim are the two fatalities.

stusi, do you have an internet link to Israel's opinion on that it was terrorist attack?

7 patients, of which 6 were transported with one have the lower end of injury complaining of chest pains, who the authorities think is related to the incident.

One of the 7 transported had passed on.

The Israeli's think it's a terrorist thing because it happened at the El Al ticket counter. If it was a terrorist act, it was a pretty lame attempt at whatever they were attempting.

Weird. How could one gunman shoot so many and even knife one if he was killed after the first shots?

How do they know the age of the gunman but not his name or nationality?

" The 52-year-old gunman had approached another person at the counter
and opened fire shortly before noon, said Alex Baez, a police
spokesman. There was no immediate indication of his identity,
nationality or motive."

" An El Al security guard fatally shot the gunman, police said."

" Killed were a 46-year-old man and a woman in her 20s, authorities
said. In addition, a 61-year-old woman was shot in the ankle, a
40-year-old man was knifed and a man in his 20s was treated for
injuries from a pistol-whipping, authorities said. Details about the knifing
were not immediately available. Two others underwent treatment for heart problems, fire officials said."

"A witness, Thad Weimlein, described an initial flurry of fire, followed by silence, then more gunfire."

"The terrorists deliberately chose the Fourth of July to carry out their crime on the soil of the United
States," Israeli foreign ministry spokeswoman Yaffa Ben-Ari said in a statement."

Thanks Kraftdinner, I was thinking that, too, but was looking for more information.

The first report I heard on FOX [I think, I switch them so much I never am sure which station it was] they were interveiwing one of the witnesses and that man said that the gunman was "telling bad jokes and saying that Artie [I couldn't catch the rest of this bit] took his job. " Doesn't sound like a terrorist to me. Sounds like a crazy that came out to play. Not like the media hasn't sent out a huge invitation to the crazies with all their "TERROR ON THE 4TH" talk.

Yes, it could be a non-terrorist attack, too but either way, it is tragic.

With their experience the Israelis might define terrorist different than the US.

I just heard that they don't think it was a terrorist act.

Before 9-11, some peeps would have considered it a "hate crime."

The Israelis have come out and said there is no question in their minds that this was a terrorist attack--that an El Al counter was attacked on the 4th of July in America was no coincidence. I don't know who I'm quoting tho'--a woman. Besides, this has happened to them before. In Rome, and I think in Algeria; maybe even simultaneuosly.

The Israelis will think what they want. This is America where the nuts always come out on holidays. This is nothing new here at all. I do not believe it was a terrorist activity.

The last I heard on this, is that they can't rule out terrorist and are indeed looking into possible "hate crime." Apparently, he had exhibited hostility toward a neighbor who proudly displayed the US flag and other possible indications he might have been a "sleeper."

It is up in the air.

Whether or not this was a "terrorist" incident is splitting hairs. Yes, it was hardly as serious as most freeway accidents. OTOH, if an Egyptian shows up at the El Al flight counter with a couple of handguns and a knife, how exactly is this an "unrelated incident? "

Apparently Bush has decided that it's only terrorism when it happens over here, to American citizens. Personally, I am getting tired of seeing Bush kiss arab butt.

twinsoft- I agree with you on the Arab butt kissing although it goes far beyond Dubya's decision. The way we check into airports is going to change quickly and drastically with separate check in and boarding terminals. Kudos to the El Al security guards for preventing more deaths.

Heard the security guards were off-duty or plain clothes police officers and there was a passenger that jumped the gunman, too.

I'll try,

Why was this nut allowed in the country in the first place ?

The muslim population has made war on America fromthe very first day they knew that we had declared independance.
for 42 year our young country was sucked dry by these rapacious fiends.
taking hostages, murdering, selling into slavery, all they while flashing the koran.
Once we had the strength to resist their inancial and miliatry demands they simply moved their terror to the south pacific once we dealt with qualla battoo and others there they moved their holy war to the phillapines where it still rages today, in the meantime the were on the wrong side in ww 1 the wrong side in ww2 and the wrong side in the cold war then they followed that up with killing marines in beruit, terroron planes and a series of despicable acts. there is no other group of people on the planet who have attacked America and Americans regardless or race religion or beliefs for 225 years. throw them out now ! Dont let any more in.
and tell their leaders with the big friggen mouths that they stole money under duress from a fledgling nation and we have not been paid back the money or interest on that money yet and they have until sundown to pay it back!
