I knew it was coming,Cap limits on lawsuits.
Bush did this in Texas,One of his first acts.A lot of people assume you get big bucks, just signing up for a lawsuit. It tai't

So, Republicans inserted the legal protection for corporations and insurance companies with "little or no fanfare". I suppose the Democrats are under their usual complaisant mode. There is nothing so repulsive as when someone defeated by scum proceeds to suck up to it.

You have to admit that lawsuits have been getting way out of hand. People sue--and win--over some of the most asinine things. One of my favorites is the guy who sued a bike manufacturer after he got hit by a car while riding his bike...because the maker didn't specify that one should use lights when riding at night (can you say "Duh"?).

LOL! The bicycle manufacturer will probably include that in the next manual.-Very Important!!!

Very Important - Turn on the lights at night.

Muy Importante - Encienda las luces en la noche.

LOL!

I admit some have gotton out of control,They are few and far between. The part I really don't like in the first artical ,is the lawsuits would go before a Fedral court, with chances of the case being thrown out, before being heard.

Bush was fund raiseing, while talking about the limits.....Congress needs to limit him from political side stepping. His whole time in office has been fund raiseing and vacations.

Bunni, it is true that many frivolous lawsuits are filed. That number (or guess at the number) often gets reported to the media as sensationalism. What fails to get recorded is that 99 percent of them get tossed out of court beforehand because they are deemed frivolous! THAT doesn't seem to EVER get reported!

Once a frivolous lawsuit is allowed into court, it has to survive the first few minutes of opening arguments. Of that 1 percent that made it to here, 99 percent of those get tossed right out of the courtroom at that point. Now we're down to a tenth of single percent. Shall I go on?

Bottom line is that IF the lawsuit is UNIQUE enough, with a convincing enough argument about the merits of the case on the front of it, it has a fifty-fifty chance of making it into the courtroom. Yes, they do mention the Hot Coffee and the gal that sued, but only once did I ever read the FULL STORY -- and the matter was hardly frivolous to me! On the face of it -- yes, it looks that way. Some kind person, maybe REAMOND did, posted that link in the past here in the RT.

The Caps on awards has, but one and only one purpose: to prevent the courts from being able to punish corporations. Period.
