The kiddies are getting more and more involved with the internet and I'm thinking it's time to put some barriers up before they discover what 99% of the internet is about. Any suggested software?

TIA

Just show them a picture of Marge Shotz in a string bikini. If that doesn't stop them from wanting to view porn, nothing will

I'd aim at making them not want to look for porn. The previous suggestion might work but I'd perhaps talk about how damaging it is to those who make it and those who seek it. How a lack of respect for either gender is destructive of families and good relationships as well as society as a whole. If you believe that and can tell them in a way that is believable. If they want to find it they will no matter what level of inconvenience you put in their way. I hope they are 3 or 4 because that's when to start teaching such basic patterns as respect for other people with any hope of it taking.

Blockers are only middling effective, they have to be religiously updated due to the proliferation of new sites on the web, and as your kids get older they'll figure out how to get around it if they want to.The most important thing you can do is WATCH what your kids are doing with their time on the net. You monitor the movies they watch, right? And the company they keep, yes? You know the words to the music they listen to and how much Tee-Vee they watch, so do the same for the internet. Let them know you are monitoring what they do and where they go on the net. When my 10 year old got his own machine this year, I showed him how I could watch his every move in real time from my machine, and let him know in no uncertain terms that if it looked to me like he was doing things he shouldn't, he would be disconnected in a New York Minute...he looked at me like I was some kind of idiot, and said "Dad, is there really going to be naughty pictures on the 4H Horsemanship discussion page?

Thanks for the suggestions. At this point, I'm not too concerned them wanting to look at porn. They're 9 and 10 and have no such interest. What I am concerned about is that while they search for whatever interests them at the moment, they will come across porn links randomly. I'm usually in the vicinity when either is surfing, but there can still be surprises.

While searching for a Matrix costume for my son, he saw a costume descripton called "A+". This was at an online costume shop. I figured it was school-related and so we clicked on it. What we discovered was a 21 y.o. blonde, hair up in pony tails, in a school girl outfit, the skirt of which fell about 2" below her crotch.

I'm no prude, but I want my kids to grow up with a healthy respect for personal and sexual relationships. Exposing them to raw porn won't engender that. And while the advice to always watch what they're watching works 100%, it's no more practical than following them to their friends' homes and school and monitoring everything they do.

Thus far, I don't think they've come across it, but as they become more and more active on the net, it's certain to happen. Gravid, your suggestions are very much on target.

Tough issue, I realize.
