Responses are brought to you by an "Ultra-Liberal"
* "You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on demand."
That is funny. Conservatives want less government regulation, but then want to regulate abortion. This goes for drugs as well. Go figure...
* "You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity."
Our present Republican administration has created the largest deficit through government spending in the history of the United States. Clinton, a Democrat supported smaller businesses, and created the largest surplus which has been squandored in less than 4 years by Bush.
* "You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than U.S. nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Chinese and North Korean communists."
I don't seriously think the problem is law abiding citizens in the United States. The problem is with criminals who use guns, and the police who use their guns and other weapons without justification. If you think those countries trust us with our Nuclear Weapons, then you are pretty stupid, or a Republican.
* "You have to believe that there was no art before Federal funding."
Yeah, kind of like there wasn't Corporate Welfare before Federal Funding.
* "You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical documented changes in the earth's climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUVs."
Any smart Democrat or Liberal can tell you it is a combination of the above and other factors. An army of a million soccer moms driving SUV's contribute to global warming just like those fossil fuel industrial plants do. Sure there are cyclical changes that are natural, however, we don't have to make it a point to speed up the process and wipe out all living things within a few hundred years.
* "* You have to believe that gender roles are artificial but being homosexual is natural."
Gender roles are created by cultural and societal moreys. These moreys change and are different from culture to culture. Homosexuality has nothing to do with gender roles, though gender roles do have something to do with homosexuality.
* "You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding."
AIDS is generally spread by sexual contact with a carrier. Lack of Federal Funding only has to do with AIDS cure research and education on avoiding the disease.
* "You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach 4th graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex."
The problem with sex education and reading isn't just the teachers, but the parents who avoid these subjects like the plague. If parents taught their children about sex, disease, and how to read, our children would be better prepared for adulthood.
* "You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but loony activists who have never been outside of San Francisco do."
I just read a story where a large population of hunters are supporting environmental organizations because no one else is looking out for their interests for hunting. The NRA seems to be focused on gun control. As for hippies in San Francisco, I can't speak for them, but most of the hippies I know are more self-sufficient and would survive better than most suburbanites and city dwellers.
* "You have to believe that self esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it."
This is plain stupid and deems no response.
* "You have to believe that Mel Gibson spent $25 million of his own money to make The Passion Of The Christ for financial gain only."
Most Democrats could care less about Mel Gibson. To counter that claim though, the same can be said about Republicans towards Michael Moore, though I'm sure that the financial figures are different.
* "You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution."
Actually, I'm a Democrat and I support the NRA's right to exist and promote their agenda. Generally, it is the Republicans who have problems with the ACLU and the fact that they do not descriminate against who they represent. Also, Michael Moore is a card carrying NRA member. Hmmm.
* "You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high."
Taxes are too low if you are in the upper 10% of American Incomes. The other 90% pay a significantly higher rate based on a percentage of their income. If you want to tell me that you and no other Republican has ever complained about ATM fees, then you are simply lying. We all complain about ATM fees, but I tend to complain more about paying $30 for two people to see a movie, eat a bag of popcorn and a couple of cokes.
* " You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, Gen. Robert E. Lee, and Thomas Edison."
We are all important to American history.
* "You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides are not."
This is a classic. Less dollars go into schools located in minority areas for education than do to schools with higher incomes per capita. Many teachers don't care about educating, but rather where they are educating. The best teachers are needed in schools with lowest test scores, whether they serve minorities or not. Racial quotas and setasides aka: Affirmative Action was created as a means to level the playing field. The problem with Affirmative Action is balance. There is no way to balance it without excluding someone. Of course, Republicans tend to whine and cry about AA, but they have yet to come up with a plan that would be "fair and balanced".
* "You have to believe that Hillary Clinton is normal and is a very nice person."
I don't know her personally, and either do most Americans. I've heard Barbara Bush is the antichrist though I've never met her either.
* "You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked anywhere it's been tried is because the right people haven't been in charge."
This is amusing. No political/economic system is perfect, yet for some strange reason this is an argument used repeatedly by the Republicans. It is ok to live under socialized roadways, socialized education, socialized corporate tax breaks, etc., but when it comes to Health Insurance (which I note is not mentioned here), that cannot be socialized. Odd, don't you think?
* You have to believe conservatives telling the truth belong in jail, but a liar and a sex offender belonged in the White House.
Conservatives tell the truth? I think this is a lie. Isn't it? Really... this is a lie. If you want to point at Bill Clinton as a Liar, go right ahead. Can you tell me one politician who has never lied? Clinton's blowjobs didn't cost human lives like Bush and Cheney's lies. They all lie, and some are held accountable and others are protected by a Republican House, a Republican Senate, and a Republican Supreme Court. As for the sex offender, well, he committed adultry. No issues here with that argument, though I do believe this is a family matter. But since you want to point fingers lets not forget Jack Ryan tried to force Jerri Ryan to sexually perform in front of people at sex clubs in New York, etc. Let's not forget about Clarence Thomas's scandal, let's not forget about Newt Gingrich leaving his wife because she was ill, etc. Should I stop here? Those are all Republicans right?
* You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag, transvestites, and bestiality should be constitutionally protected, and manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.
I've never been to a homosexual parade, but I can imagine they get pretty outrageous. One of these days I will check one out to see for myself what goes on. I can see the issue of public decency being valid. I don't want to see George W. Bush parading around in drag or performing beastiality rituals on a pink floral float, though I think it would be funny. I don't recall Manger scenes being an issue if they are not on government property. I think it is a matter of respect to other cultures and religions, and the seperation of church and state protects them.
* "You have to believe that illegal Democratic Party funding by the Chinese government is somehow in the best interest to the United States."
Kind of like Republicans take money from corporations who then benefit from laxed regulations, and moving jobs overseas. You know... that sure is a better idea than getting funding from the Chinese. They are both wrong and both practices should be condemned.
* "You have to believe that the posting of this list is a part of a vast, right wing conspiracy."
No, I don't think the right wingers in this country are currently smart enough or organized enough to create conspiracies. In the 1960's during Kennedy's presidency, the right wingers were organized and smart enough. You have the village idiot leading the way now and the process is do now and let the Democrats clean up the mess after they are done.
