copy of email from Kerry campaign
Dear Dave,
Today marks the end of the dishonest and disgusting smear campaign against John Kerry and his crewmates from Vietnam. This morning on the front page of the Washington Post, one of the central figures in the effort to distort John Kerry's military service was completely discredited.
The group behind this smear campaign calls itself "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth." But the truth is the last thing they are interested in.
President Bush refuses to condemn this group. He wants them to do his dirty work. But this effort to distract attention from the issues that matter most has failed.
This morning, John Kerry said he learned an important lesson in Vietnam: "When you're under attack, the best thing to do is turn your boat into the attacker." Today he took these lessons to heart, knocked down these charges, and made a firm commitment to the American people that the lies about his military service will not stop him from fighting for affordable health care, good-paying jobs, and keeping America secure.
This doesn't mean that these blatantly false attacks won't continue -- the Bush-Cheney campaign is desperate and has no record to run on. But it does mean that we are not going to let them distract us from letting people know about John Kerry's plan to make America stronger at home and respected in the world.
Read the Washington Post article:
http://www.johnkerry.com/article
Read John Kerry's statement from his speech at the International Association of Firefighters Convention in Boston this morning:
Over the last week or so, a group called Swift Boat Veterans for Truth has been attacking me. Of course, this group isn't interested in the truth -- and they're not telling the truth. They didn't even exist until I won the nomination for president.
But here's what you really need to know about them. They're funded by hundreds of thousands of dollars from a Republican contributor out of Texas. They're a front for the Bush campaign. And the fact that the president won't denounce what they're up to tells you everything you need to know -- he wants them to do his dirty work.
Thirty years ago, official Navy reports documented my service in Vietnam and awarded me the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts. Thirty years ago, this was the plain truth. It still is. And I still carry the shrapnel in my leg from a wound in Vietnam.
As firefighters you risk your lives every day. You know what it's like to see the truth in the moment. You're proud of what you've done -- and so am I.
Of course, the president keeps telling people he would never question my service to our country. Instead, he watches as a Republican-funded attack group does just that. Well, if he wants to have a debate about our service in Vietnam, here is my answer: 'Bring it on.'
I'm not going to let anyone question my commitment to defending America -- then, now, or ever. And I'm not going to let anyone attack the sacrifice and courage of the men who saw battle with me.
And let me make this commitment today: their lies about my record will not stop me from fighting for jobs, health care, and our security -- the issues that really matter to the American people.

He's been saying for months he'll get the numbers together....hasn't yet...but the most recent mention his campaign has made is that he'll get that information together and to us AFTER the election. [seriously]
Many have stated his elimination of the tax cut to those making more than $200,000. a year is nowhere near enough to pay for all his promises/suggested programs. He'll raise our taxes just like clinton did in '93.

Kerry is complaining now about Pres Bush's plan to reduce American troops in Europe. But only last week, kerry promised to reduce the American military presence in Europe if elected.
posted on August 19, 2004 05:29:38 PM When is Kerry going to say how he is going to pay for all of these campaign promises?
When is Bush going to say how he is going to pay for the spending he has done, isdoing, and proposes to do and cut taxes at the same time...?

Bush doesn't know how he will pay for the spending because he is not done spending. He does not know when he will be pulling the troops out of Iraq. He still believes the troops will be in Iraq until 2006 unfortunately Bush will not be in the White House when the troops finally come home.

Get this through your head, Kerry is not was or and will not be a traitor. What he is is a pratiotic American who has served his country honorably both in the military and private sectors.
What you view as treason (speaking out against an unjustified, unwinable war) is the right of all Americans.
Bush cannot run on his record he can only run on lies, falsehoods and mistatements.
I believe him to be the worst president since US Grant.
Time for Linda to put a giant cut and paste to cover my comments.
And as an after thought twelve who cares what you asked. I swatted some flies off your diner this evening you should thank me.

I didn't ask about President Bush, now did I?
No you just forget about all the lies he has committed over the past 4 years. You forget about all the campaign promises he made 4 years ago. You forget about the war that is going on and what a disaster it has turned into.

The same might be said for Bush. How is HE going to pay for his? How is HE going to pay for the war? He's not. We are.
You all might notice that I'm not posting as much as usual. That's because I'm getting more than a little tired of the bash this and bash that threads that are going on right now. For the most part, there's no debating going on. It's more I hate this, I hate that, he did this, he did that, they said. . . .and it's mostly coming from the Bush camp. Just look at the titles of all the threads and who is posting them and you tell me what side is doing most of the bashing.
Yes, twelve, you are right. Enough IS enough. But it doesn't have anything to do with how Kerry is going to pay for anything. The issues aren't being debated anymore. As a matter of fact, does anyone even know what the issues are anymore? What are Bush's campaign promises? BESIDES the war on terror? As far as I can tell, he has none.
I'm leaving Sunday for a much needed vacation of camping, canoeing, hiking and biking. Maybe I'll come back with a different perspective. Maybe not. But, it will sure be nice to leave behind the TV, telephone, radio, eBay and computer for three days!!! I look forward to listening to nothing at night. . .no sirens, no loud music, no neighbors arguing, no dogs barking.

Well you are most likely going to have Kerry as your leader. In my opinion bush showed me how good a leader he was when told about the towers being hit.

Cheryl, It's obvious by the number of people still posting here that you're not alone with those thoughts.
I'll add a few items to that from *my* list - No Linda, no twelvepole, no bear > no vile and tawdry sleaze!
I thought that I would never lose interest here but now, I have. So thank you, Linda. You are providing a
sort of aversive conditioning for me and improving the balance in my life style.
BTW....Roadsmith. Your son's informative post in this thread was outstanding! Wish we had more like that!

Not true, twelvepole.
Bush has distinguished himself only by waging the dirtiest election campaign in the history of the United States. In this regard he continues to excel.
It's funny to see you guys left with nothing of substance to attack. So continue to stew in your sleaze and attack what you so valiantly honor...military service and the credibility of U.S. veterans.
posted on August 20, 2004 07:29:28 AMThat's because I'm getting more than a little tired of the bash this and bash that threads that are going on right now.
Oh but it was okay and lots more fun for the lefties here when all the Bush bashing threads were going on for *months*. Calling him a Nazi...discussing all he's done wrong in defending our country, all the money that our Congress was spending .....while supporting even more be spent.
Now you have a candidate that is ALSO calling for us to stay in Iraq - whose policies/statements are closer to this Presidents the longer he runs. Must really be heartbreaking for all you anti-war people.
I understand. Kind of hard to debate the 'issues' when kerry's campaign has mainly been focused on what Bush has or hasn't done....rather than a platform of his own that you could debate about. Since he won't take a stand on so many issues..it's hard to defend his policies.
--------------
You notice, twelve, they have no answer to your question. How can they when kerry won't say himself. But they don't care how much more we'll all be paying...it's the 'anybody but Bush club'.

cheryl and helen, same here as far as enough is enough, I'm going to take a mini-vacation, too and just enjoy the rest of the summer....I don't mind the debates but the level of attack against Kerry (OOOOh he got an expensive HAIRDO, what a terrible guy!)
are not really debates about what's best for this country but are more about how much the Righties hate their fellow Americans..
Since I got really interested in politics several years ago this is what I've noticed over the years out in the real world and in here. This is why I remain a Democrat.
Democrats never just go by the "bumper sticker". They seem to always be searching for more information, finding more facts, more interested in policies than personalities. They see beyond themselves, they see how our families , our communities, the people of the world are interdependent. They accept people who are not carbon copies of themselves. Democrats, even very wealthy ones, seem to be more in touch with real life, real people....don't use C&P for everything, they have accumulated knowledge from living and being aware of what's going on around them.
Republicans will read a headline and just run with it with no curiosity as to the truth. Example: when some protesters waving flip flops were asked "on what did Kerry flip flop?" They were unable to answer..."we just heard he flip flops".
Republicans think it's their way or no way. We should all think alike, believe alike, act alike (kinda like communists).
They seem so full of hate.
Now, the neocons will jump in here with their borrringly predictable
C&Ps, their insults , their hate, their bumper sticker brains, their total lack of humor,.....maybe that's why this chat room has been so boring lately , don't we all just KNOW what twelve's post will look like...same old one line insult, bear or linda's long C&Ps (which they need since real life has passed them by).
Anyway, I'm bored with it all and need a vacation from politics even if it's for a few days. My writing endeavors will go directly to my Senator, congressman and Representative!
AND YOURS should, TOO!

PS: I have heard all Kerry's plans which he has delineated but neocons will never find it because they don't want to.
A traitor is a person, according to linda, who aids and abets the enemy, just like bush did when he refused to fight. No, I won't vote for bush because of this.....there's SOOOO many, many more reasons.
And please thank bush for all those $1,000.00 haircuts for the rich.....I agree, Kerry needs major hair help. That's why I'm voting for him.

Might be a very nice change to actually be able to have "conversations" about our political differences without all the name calling.

Oh, poor little linda of the tender feelings...!
Were names called ?
Did they hurt you? AAAWWWW!
Funny, I didn't see you as the sensitive type...ya, know with your support for torturing children I wouldn't think name calling would have such an effect on you.
But then you're a neocon and name calling is so much more offensive than raping children.

CROWFARM, Take a break and do your good work outside of this board for awhile. You will get a lot of votes for Kerry away from this board. There are only a few twisted minded republicans here. No one pays much attention to them anyway.
I have read that a couple of these fools think you and I are the same person. Let these twisted minded people feed off each other. They are getting more votes for John Kerry and John Edwards than they relize by spreading their lies.
My son got 6 of his collegs buddies regestered to vote this week. He found out that a lot of republican parents get absent voters cards and sign there kids names to them. The kids didn't even know they voted. He found out that we democrats have learned a lot from the republicans about pulling votes out of the air.
By the way crowfarm what part of the country are you from? I live near Pittsburgh Pa.
After your break I am sure you will be back very soon. I just have a feeling you won't be able to let a few twisted people spread their lies without contesting them.

Bigpeepa says; He found out that a lot of republican parents get absent voters cards and sign there kids names to them.
Oh he found this out did he, and did he do anything about it, does he have any proof?? Because if he does have any proof he should turn them in immediately, I certainly would weather they were Republican or Democrat.
It's like the time I went to the post office and someone was outside registering people to vote but only registering those that wanted to register Democrat. I turned him in and beleive me they put a stop to it immediately.

Twelvetoes, You asked, "When is Kerry going to say how he is going to pay for all of these campaign promises?" John Kerry will answer all your questions in the Debates. If you can't wait for the debates just go to www.JohnKerry.com right now your questions are answered there.
TWELVETOES SAYS BUSH IS THE ONLY TRUE CHOICE. I HAVE LOOKED AT BOTH SIDES AND CAN'T FIND MUCH THAT IS TRUE ABOUT WHAT GEO.BUSH SAYS OR DOES.

Kerry wouldn't answer how he was going to pay for all his promises back in February of this year....and he still hasn't.
from factcheck.org
"And in fact, several news organizations have said that Kerry is overpromising, most recently a Washington Post story Feb 29. The Post said Kerry is proposing to spend at least $165 billion more on new programs in the next four years than his tax plan would pay for.
^^^mind you, this was in February......he's promised a lot more since then^^^^
"Kerry disputed that, saying the Post failed to account for his plan to save $139 billion by repealing Bush's Medicare prescription drug benefit, and overestimated what Kerry planned to spend -- temporarily, he said -- to stimulate the economy.
But Kerry hasn't yet shown in detail how he would close the gap between his spending promises and his somewhat vague promise to repeal portions of Bush's tax cuts.
Kerry's health-care plan alone would cost $895 billion over 10 years, according to the Thorpe study, which Kerry has accepted. And it's not clear how that would be paid for.
Kerry would not repeal the entire Bush tax cut; he's said he would preserve increases in the per-child tax credit, tax breaks for married couples, and lowered rates at the bottom of the income scale. He also speaks generally about raising taxes on those making over $200,000 a year.
But a look at some calculations made recently by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center suggests strongly that raising taxes only on individuals in that category wouldn't produce nearly enough to pay for Kerry's health plan, let alone reducing the deficit.
