Crawford, Texas, Newspaper Endorses Kerry

Weekly Newspaper Published Near Bush's Ranch in Crawford, Texas, Endorses Kerry

CRAWFORD, Texas Sept. 28, 2004 — A tiny weekly newspaper that bills itself as President Bush's hometown paper has endorsed John Kerry for president, saying the Massachusetts senator will restore American dignity.

The Lone Star Iconoclast, which has a weekly circulation of 425, said in an editorial dated Sept. 29 that Texans should rate the candidates not by hometown or political party, but by where they intend to take the country.

Four items trouble us the most about the Bush administration: his initiatives to disable the Social Security system, the deteriorating state of the American economy, a dangerous shift away from the basic freedoms established by our founding fathers, and his continuous mistakes regarding Iraq," the editorial said.

The Iconoclast, established in 2000, said it editorialized in support of the invasion of Iraq and publisher W. Leon Smith promoted Bush and the invasion in a BBC interview, believing Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction.

"Instead we were duped into following yet another privileged agenda," the editorial said.

The newspaper praised Kerry for "30 years of experience looking out for the American people" and lauded his background as "a highly decorated Vietnam veteran."

The paper is quoted as saying, "he let us down."

And you think that the publisher of a small town rural newspaper in Texas is not a rabid Democrat!! The Republican strength in Texas is in the cities. We call them "Yellow Dog Democrats". As my grandfather used to say, "I'd vote for a yellow hound dog if he was on the Democratic ticket." That was back before Ben Barnes started the Democratic Party in Texas into their downward spiral and ruin.

You'd better take a look at the red/blue map from the last presidential election.

I think it's cute that yeager thinks because a small town newspaper, with a circulation of 425 makes any difference at alll in this election.

I'm sure not every single subscriber holds their party line. And then there's all those who are moving away from kerry. Like women voters who supported gore and aren't supporting kerry anywhere near how the did gore. The security moms who are going to President Bush...away from their democratic party...on and on it goes...more and more moderate dems turning away from kerry's election...but we should be oh-so-worried about an article from a small town newspaper

reamond: I know exactly how the voting went in Texas:
Bush carried my city by 72%. Dallas is strongly Republican as well as Longview, Tyler, and most of East Texas.
Results in 2000:
Bush 3,799,639
Gore 2,433,746

Examples: Denton Bush 72%, Gore 26%
Amarillo: Bush 17,625 Gore 7,242 (that is absentee voting)
Dallas: Bush 59% Gore 38%
Houston: Bush 54% Gore 43%

Any more comments!

Linda homey,

What makes a difference is when this small town newspaper MAKES NATIONAL NEWS. In their editorial it says, "he let us down". I saw this on ABC and CNN. That is the important part of this issue.

Try to restrain yourself from calling me honey. Again, I'm NOT your honey. I would NEVER be interested in being your honey even if you were the last man on earth. Got that?

---------
Here's a very funny part of your article.

The newspaper praised Kerry for "30 years of experience looking out for the American people" and lauded his background as "a highly decorated Vietnam veteran."

Bet they couldn't name three things kerry could take credit for getting passed in his 20 years in the Senate. Few can....because there's so little to show for all those years. He was too busy posing for the nearest camera.

The paper is quoted as saying, "he let us down."

He let no one down....except those like kerry who changed his position from support for removing saddam....to slamming the President for doing exactly what he voted to allow him to do. kerry changed HIS position....President Bush hasn't.

As for the success of Kerry's anti-democracy protests and his leadership of the VVAW and association with Fonda's Winter Soldier Investigation, General Vo Nguyen Giap, Vietnam's most decorated military leader, wrote in retrospect that if not for the disunity created by such stateside protesters, Hanoi would have ultimately surrendered.

The name of the newspaper is "the Lone Star Iconoclast".

Definition of iconoclast: Noun 1. iconoclast - someone who tries to destroy traditional ideas or institutions.

That about says it all.

Their endorsement of Kerry doesn't keep them from selling "Crawford Texas, Home of President George W. Bush" paper weights for $39.95 each at the top of their web page.

Hilarious.

What are you too lazy or stupid to look it up your self ? Typical Bushtard has nearly all the information in the world at her fingertips and can't find anything. The only red areas in Texas are near the border with Mexico, and Crawford is right in the middle of a Republican area.

I seriously doubt that the newspaper is published in Crawford. With one store, a church, and a few houses, I don't know where they would put the printing press.

I don't give a rat's a** about your red and blue map. I proved with the facts and figures from the 2000 election that the republican strength lies in the cities, just like I stated in my post.

And it's him not her, as in Bill.
Course you are reading challenged also.

okay...I'm confused on this map. All the areas who are in blue voted for Bush...not gore. This is a reversed color map. On all the other maps almost the whole state is in red. Not sure why this one is reversed and I can't read the print. Anyone what to help me on this?

Thanks Linda_K.

I didn't even look at his "map". Had nothing to do with the fact that I stated the Republican power is located in the cities in Texas and proved it with facts and figures.

Then he comes along with his "map" which had absolutely nothing to do with my statement.

This map shows how the counties in each state went. RED = Bush blue = gore.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/vote2000/cbc/map.htm

Then this is how each state went...according to their electoral votes.. again RED = BUSH blue = gore

You're welcome, etexbill , but I looked it up for my own benefit as the blue being so much of the country...I just knew that wasn't correct.

The funny thing about that is that this newspaper strongly supported Bush in 2000. Another neocon lie by Bear.
