I haven't been able to stop thinking about you the last couple of days. Sure wish you'd check in and let us know you and yours are all okay with all that volcano action going on up there.
I don't know if you live close to it or not...I'm hoping not. But sure would like to quit worrying about you.

Hey Linda!
We're fine, St Helens is far south of us. We're in the south Puget Sound area of Seattle.
I worry more about Mt Rainier!
In 1980 a couple weeks before May 18th, my brother, me and some friends went up there. They had it secured off getting close, because they were forecasting the BIG one..... well, my brother, my smart ass brother (hey we were young then, oh to be young again LOL) knew a way around security, and we WALKED in miles, in the snow, a couple miles in, I started to scare myself silly, and turned around and walked back alone through the woods. He and a couple others got close and got pictures.
DANGEROUS thing to do, as a few weeks later, as you know, it blew and killed 50 some people up there!
I don't know what will happen this time. It did 'burp' again today. We'll see, they say it can be anytime now for a big one, if there will be a big one. Depending on the wind direction, we may get ash. I REMEMBER that mess!
Oh, been gone, been doing some Pre Grandparenting stuff!

Wow, I'm actually closer to St Helens than NeartheSea is, and Linda doesn't check in to make sure I'm ok. lol.
I can see St Helens right now. The sun is setting on her, and just some very faint alpine glow is evident from about 50 miles away. Mt. Hood and Rainier get better Alpine Glow than St Helens does, since they are over 10,000 feet each, Rainier being the big boy of the bunch. There is some Native American folklore about St. Helens. Native Americans give all 3 mountains different names, obviously... I wish I remembered them. I think one was called Klickitat, but not sure... I'll research it in a book I have. Anyhow, Rainier and Hood represented two great Native Warriors, and St. Helens was the prize princess each sought in battle. It has been quite awhile since I read it, so I'll try to fill anyone interested in on the details.

NearTheSea - THANK GOD....Now I do remember you mentioning the Puget Sound...I'd forgotten that. I'm soooo relieved.
Enjoy all that 'grandparenting' stuff...it's what makes life worth living. So much more fun as a Grandparent.
Take care.

LOL rusty - I didn't know you lived up that way or I would have asked about you too. From what I hear...she's ready to blow. Are you close enough that you might be evacuating?
We almost bought an A-framed home that had the most beautiful view of Mt. Rainier when we were looking for a place to retire. We also almost bought a house on some acreage in Squim. At least they get a little more sunshine than most of WA state does. Something to do with a hole in the cloud structures...that allows more sun to come through.
So....be safe rusty...I might need mental help some day and you'll be the last person I'll ask for it.
