Couple accused of child sacrifice plot.

November 14, 2004

A woman and her boyfriend stand accused of plotting to sacrifice the woman's three children on a church altar.

Nicole Mancini, 29, and John Thurber, 35, were arrested at St Mary's Church in Rochester, New Hampshire, on Wednesday after workers said they heard the woman say she wanted to sacrifice the boys.

"We could tell this woman was not right," said church secretary Donna Landolfi. "She said, 'Let's go make the sacrifice."'

Mancini and Thurber were in jail on Saturday on more than $25,000 bail. They were arraigned on three counts each of misdemeanour child endangerment. Thurber was also charged with marijuana possession.

The children, ages 9, 7 and 2, were not harmed and were placed in state custody. Police said Thurber is the father of the youngest boy.

Police said Mancini told them Jesus sacrificed himself for her, so she was going to sacrifice the boys to free her soul.

"Eighteen years I've been doing this and I've never come across anything like it," police Lieutenant Paul Callaghan said.

Mancini's lawyer, Kimberly Shoen, said her client meant the children no harm.

"They were never tied to the altar, there was no blood, there were no constraints for sacrificial use," she said.

Linda Slamon, Thurber's lawyer, said Mancini had been acting "irrationally" recently and Thurber accompanied her to the church to get her help.

"If anything, he was there to protect the children and protect Miss Mancini," Slamon said.

A judge ordered Mancini to undergo a mental evaluation.

quartermass,

Exactly! The heads of religion use fear to control the people that follow them. What a farce. What a bunch of blinded idiots.

Well I might as well stick my story in here, good place for it....
Went to the Flea Market today and was asking a friend about another Dealer who was suppose to have gotten married on September 25, but never mentioned any more about it. Heres the story this dealer told my friend.
She said the man she was getting married to had bought over $1,000 worth of remodeling supplies and done work on her home. When he got the work complete,it was a few days before the wedding. She then tells him that she had changed her mind that she was married to Jesus. So he tells her fine, he would see her in court, that he would sue her for the money spend and the work done. Now she is one worried Christian, can't understand why.

I wonder how long at he lived at her house rent free along with other free services. There was probably an agreement that we don't know about and I particularly don't care. If she liked Jesus better it was good he learned that before they got married, but he probably knew that already.

A question to you yeager. How many times did you pray for a kidney before you got yours? Or did you become antireligious after your transplant.

Libra says,

"How many times did you pray for a kidney before you got yours? Or did you become antireligious after your transplant."

First of all, before you ask that question, you should establish whether of not if I did pray at all for a transplant.

Secondly, I am not anti-religious. I am anti forced religion. This means keeping it to yourself if you are a "religious person". There is no need for anyone to share their religion with another person. Anyone who wishes to take part in any religious activity, can easily find it.

Thirdly, you could pray all day long, or never pray for a transplant. There are atheist that get transplants too. It would make no difference. The transplant surgeons don't recognize your prayers. You are given a transplant according to the matching characteristics of your blood tissue and blood type. If the available organ matched John Smith and he is a Wiccan, he gets it. It the organ matched Mary Jones and she is a catholic, she gets it. There are people who are 20 years old and very strong christians that wait for years. There are some very non-religious people who get one without a long term wait. It really has nothing to do with prayers.

People pray for many things. The common element is that they want it to happen. That could be winning at bingo, the lottery, getting a job, or a kidney transplant. Praying will not make it happen.

Wouldn't it be fair to say that praying is a positive thought based on something good happening to yourself or someone else. This engaged with the thoughts of god allowing it to happen?
