In 1991, the secretary of defense, explaining the unwiseness of regime change, said: ''Once you've got Baghdad, it's not clear what you do with it. It's not clear what kind of government you would put in place of the one that's currently there now. Is it going to be a Shia regime, a Sunni regime or a Kurdish regime? Or one that tilts toward the Baathists, or one that tilts toward the Islamic fundamentalists? How much credibility is that government going to have if it's set up by the United States military when it's there? How long does the United States military have to stay to protect the people that sign on for that government, and what happens to it once we leave?''

And who was the secretary of defense back in 1991:

Good old Dick Cheney.

I wonder what his answers to the above questions would be today?

Q. What's the difference between the Vietnam War and the Iraq War?

A. George W. Bush had a plan to get out of the Vietnam War.

Those decisions have been made already. It will be a democracy. Whether it's run by Shiites, Sunnis or whatever depends on how the people vote. I am not aware of any religious restrictions on who can run for office.

WHEN or IF the elections take place as planned, and the people have spoken things may or may not calm down.

Most of the violence right now is from people and groups who do not want the Iraqi people to have that choice.

Why is that difficult for you?

Apparently you can't tell the difference between jungle warfare and a combination of open & urban warfare

Another difference? There isn't a Demo Pres (LBJ) & Lib Politicians trying to tell the military commanders how to do their jobs.

Americans again prove Pres Bush is the best man for the job

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." --John Stuart Mill

Just destroy it and claim you will rebuild it.

After the US spends hundreds of billions of dollars trying to get the Iraqi people to accept democracy, once the US troops leave Saddam will be put back in power.
