I could not believe when I saw this one. This morning on the Today Show Matt was talking to a Texas rancher who along with one of his ranch hands was checking out the site of another rancher who has set up live feeds from his ranch enbling people to see some of his more exotic animals. Ranch hands turns to boss and says... "Hey this is cool. You know what would be cooler? If you could kill them" and an idea was born.
Rancher has now set up rifle sites on his property where you can pay a fee, log in and with your own little mouse from the comfort of your home, where you are safe and secure and sheltered from the emotional responsibility that comes with taking an animals life... hunt and attempt to kill it.
What the hell??? Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against hunting. I love wild game and grew up with a hunter in the house but damnit, if you are going to take an animals life...
1) You damn well should to be in a position where the game has the opportunity to test your skills in terms of tracking, etc... it's a sport... not a video game.
2) You better be close enough that if you wound but do not kill that you can track and finish what you started.
3) You should be there to claim your kill and use the meat... again...it's should not be a video game!
Is this really what the human race has come to? Are people really this sick and this freaking lazy? You know, even the election results did not leave me as dismayed as this one has.

Well........ after reading some of these posts, I can come to one conclusion. The Texas rancher must be exebill and the target for today must be crowfarm.....BAAAWAAAAAA

I'd love to, but it won't be necessary. Once they actually start the live hunting, I'll bet they can't keep their server up for more than a few hours at a time. They won't last long, don't worry.

"Currently, shooters will be able to fire 10 (ten) .22 caliber rounds at paper and silhouette targets. You may also have a DVD recording and/or the paper target from the session shipped as an option. Look for additional, varied shooting systems along with competitions to come online soon."
Target shooting, not exotic animals... however they do offer exotic animal hunting.... I think the idea of target shooting is cool, but any live targets would be just wrong and would have to be illegal somehow, well actually this whole deal might be illegal...

Thought the hunting of exotics is beyond the scope and control of the Texas Parks and Wildlife dept, they are investigating and searching for a method to prevent hunting via "remote" control.
Hunting of exotics like Axis deer, Barbados sheep & other "NON" Native Texas species is unregulated. If a property owner has exotic game running wild on their property, they may be hunted without a Texas hunting license and the property owner may charge what he wants to hunt them.
Texas has banned "canned" hunts of other exotics like lions and tigers. I doubt the remote hunt via the Live-Shot site will ever become a reality.
The State of Texas via the Texas Parks and Wildlife dept. also offers a yearly lottery type drawing for exotics, hog, coyote and deer hunts on state owned properties. Some hunts come with restrictions on the type of weapons used (Blackpowder muzzle loaders, archery, shotgun or any weapon). I've been signing up for them for the past 6 or 8 years, and have only been selected for ferrel hog, coyote, doe hunts and javelina.

The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." --John Stuart Mill
