In his new book "Memory and Identity," referring to pressure on the European Parliament to legalize gay marriage, the Pope questions, "It is legitimate and necessary to ask oneself if this is not perhaps part of a new ideology of evil, perhaps more insidious and hidden, which attempts to pit human rights against the family and against man?"

"... the new ideology of evil"??? LoL!! Does he mean like Satan's henchmen out to destroy traditional marriage? Do gay people have super powers nobody knew about that allows them to ruin these marriages? What a sad statement coming from a man of God when it's so terribly obvious that traditional marriages are being destroyed by the people involved in them. Talk about not wanting to accept responsibility!

Appears to me that the Catholic church is becoming more concerned about these issues. I believe the UK just passed laws allowing gay marriage too.

Bush's handlers recognized that Pope John Paul is the most powerful religious leader in the world. Bush and his handlers should knell and kiss the Pope's ring. Right or wrong and no matter what you all think, without this Pope's beliefs and teachings Bush would never have been re-elected. Now we will all be watching to see if Bush comes through with his promises to his religious motivated voters.

I like to see them enforce this. Are they going to make people prove their sexual orientation or the their stance on abortion before they receive communion.
They should start by cleaning up the mess in their own church.
Absolute faith has been shown, consistently, to breed intolerance. And intolerance, history teaches us, again and again, begets violence.

logans, I could see them trying to enforce the no communion on pro-ab politicians, but with catholics - cant cha commit the act, go to confession say five hail marys and be absolved?
then just continue the cycle? lol! I thought in the catholic church sin was a pay as you go thing?

It has always been my understanding that you admit your sin, ask to be forgiven then you are absolved and then you earnestly work at not repeating the sin. I've never heard it said the Catholic Church approves of 'continuing the cycle'.

lol Linda, I was kidding of course. But if you think about it; the system of hating the sin, but love the sinner, very much affords this avenue of such a turnstile application of the religion.

Weird how the Pope seems to overlook the Afghanistan invasion and how that country was left... the Iraq invasion and how that's going... the population explosion that's ruining the environment and causing starvation, etc. All he seems worried about is the sex lives of everyone and how sinful everyone is. Is sinning only an individual thing? Governments and big corporations seem to be immune from being labeled sinners. Tsk tsk.

Back to the 'ideology of evil'.....
After thinking about this overnight I believe one way to look at it might be like what h. clinton is doing now.
For political reasons....she has changed her 'pitch' about abortion. She's 'talking' the talk, but not 'walking' the 'walk'. She speaks about how dems should speak out about how we should 'work' towards making abortion less frequent...but is not willing to 'DO' anything about it....like changing the current laws in any way to be take action to prevent them/limit them. So the result is as the Pope states...more infanticide.
Same thing relates to gay marriage, imo.

Linda are you offering to be a guinea pig in the name of religion?
For political reasons....she has changed her 'pitch' about abortion. She's 'talking' the talk, but not 'walking' the 'walk'.
I can say the same thing about Bush....
Nobody is buying his SS plan so he is calling upon Democrats to work with him. Euopeans nation did not buy into his Iraq War so now he is on a fence mending trip to deal with other problem countries so the US is not forced to go at it alone the next time. (Iran and NK)
Bush only calls upon others for help when no one is buying into his plan. Why wasn't he asking for ideas from Democrats regarding SS before he set out on his pitch tour? Why didn't Bush try other means and get ideas from other countries before going waging war in Iraq with practically no support from Europe (England excluded).
Absolute faith has been shown, consistently, to breed intolerance. And intolerance, history teaches us, again and again, begets violence.

thought you had figured that out by now.
I have. It's just that when I don't/won't answer their 'off topic' questions....then we all have to listen to them whining and belly-aching about 'she won't answer my questions....she just runs off/she just gets backed into a corner and leaves/etc.
So I thought it might help if I said why I wasn't answering them.
Obviously not.

parklane - I came across this article tonight and it ties in with your topic. If you ever get the time and are interested in reading it...I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts and or opinions on it.
-----
"The unprecedented support of liberals for radically redefining the basic institution of society, marriage and the family is another a product of feelings -- sympathy for homosexuals. Thinking through the effects of such a radical redefinition on society and its children is not a liberal concern."
------
The author, Dennis Prager, has written many articles that I enjoy reading. Currently he's been doing a series....and this link is part five. They all can be reviewed, by anyone interested, by clicking on his 'archived' articles icon.

ANOTHER excuse for not answering questions whe she knows she's wrong.
As for off-topic, linduh, you never did explain what Rob Reiner had to do with Social Security. I KNOW why you hate him....he helps children, but the OP never mentioned him.
As to your smilies and LOLs ...ya know, lots of things in here make me laugh too and I don't LOL all over myself......but it shows a certain very desperate , lonely person who has to share every emotion with others.
It's not that the libs in here don't laugh as much as you do......it's because they're a lot more emotionally secure they don't have to express it like you do in EVERY post.
Yes , YOU have lots to laugh about after the last election...you get more war , torture, slaughter, unequal tax burdens, more poverty, corporate corruption, corrupt government, more pollution, lies , scandal , bought-and-paid-for Republican "journalists", and so much more for you to enjoy.
And the lasting effects of the bush administrations sick corruption will, unfortunately, last long after he's no longer president.
So laugh away.....what else have you got.......?

A thoughtful analysis. Liberalism is the moral vehicle for the 'if it feels good do it' hedonists.
"Thinking through the effects......is not a liberal concern."
"Elevating motives above results is a significant part of liberalism."
Uh, yeah.
