Good bye and good riddance Danny boy.

Cronkite Praises Rather's Replacement
NEW YORK (AP) - Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather's predecessor at the "CBS Evening News," said Monday that Rather's replacement by Bob Schieffer was overdue.
Rather, 73, ends his run as evening news anchor Wednesday, exactly 24 years after replacing Cronkite. Schieffer, the "Face the Nation" host, will be a temporary fill-in until CBS decides on a permanent replacement.
Cronkite called Schieffer "one of the great television journalists of our time."
"Although Dan did a fine job, I would have liked to have seen (Schieffer) there a long time ago," Cronkite said during an interview on CNN. "He would have given the others a real run for their money."
Cronkite said it was a tribute to Rather that he held on so long.
"It surprised quite a few people at CBS and elsewhere that, without being able to pull up the ratings beyond third in a three-man field, that they tolerated his being there for so long," he told CNN.
But Cronkite did not heavily fault Rather for his role in last September's discredited story about President Bush's military service. Rather anchored the "60 Minutes Wednesday" story.
"We all know he made a mistake by now," Cronkite said. "But would we have done much the same? I would not be sure that I wouldn't have followed my producers and accepted what they had to offer."
A word to the wise ain't necessary, it's the stupid ones that need the advice."

I dont think Cronkite should be offering this back-handed compliment at all. And I dont think rather's whole career should be defined by this one debacle. But cronkite has his legacy intact, what does he care
3-man news field??? That old coot. What planet has he been on? The networks havent enjoyed a giants share of the news in how many years already? Has he even heard of cable, or the internet yet??????

I'm going to list a couple other links of those who don't agree that what he did recently is the only time he showed his bias....but rather that it has been his long-established way of pushing the liberal agenda.
Actually, if there's one TV news star whose career was epitomized by twisting the news to assist liberals and knock conservatives, it's Dan Rather. Last September's politically motivated fraud wasn't a departure for Rather; it was just an extreme example of the obnoxious bias that's tarnished his whole career. MRC has an exhaustive library of Rather's liberal rantings posted on our Web site (www.mrc.org), including 15 video clips.
Few noting rather's leaving have much faith things will change at see-BS.

Linda, dont you think someone could find similar 'stories' or productions that show peter jennings or tom brokaw as leaning liberal??
They are not being crucified, so how come?
We are all biased in one way or another. It's inherent in us, from what we believe,
and how we view the world. He and his producers f*/upbig time, no doubt about it. But what I think alot of people do not understand is, to them its the story, the rush to be first with something nobody else has. That is what drives many of them. I think he would have done the same if they thought they had something on Kerry, too.

Yo , linduh, why don't you google Armstrong Williams or one of bush's bought and paid for (illegally) "journalist"/radio personality ???
You know, where bush pays these people to present his plans as "facts".
How about the phony reporter planted by the White House to ask loaded questions ?
Well, I could go on and on but you have fun flaying Rather......and of course, ignore the fact that the documents were phony...the information in them proved to be true

Yes, dblfugger, I do think the others you've mentioned deserve to be 'called out' too. But on most right-leaning media they are...it's just that they aren't anywhere near as biased in their TV reporting.
What I have trouble with is not that they're biased....but that it's presented as NEWS that's supposedly UNBIASED. That many time fools people and they think the 'message' that they're getting is truthful, rather than an untrue statement. [Like on the number of troops injured]. When a news media is asked to correct a false report they've given and WON'T....then that's why sites like ratherbiased are formed. To inform the unsuspecting of just how OFTEN rather has done what he claims he doesn't do.
