Tom, have you and Ralphie seen this yet?
The President explains the virtues of his Social Security plan,
Tampa, FL, Feb. 4, 2005
WOMAN IN AUDIENCE: I don't really understand. How is it the new [Social
Security] plan is going to fix that problem?
Verbatim response:
President Bush: Because the -- all which is on the table begins to
address the big cost drivers. For example, how benefits are calculated,
for example, is on the table. Whether or not benefits rise based upon wage
increases or price increases. There's a series of parts of the formula that
are
being considered. And when you couple that, those different cost drivers,
affecting those -- changing those with personal accounts, the idea is to
get what has been promised more likely to be -- or closer delivered to
that has been promised. Does that make any sense to you? It's kind of
muddled
Look, there's a series of things that cause the -- like, for example,
benefits are calculated based upon the increase of wages, as opposed to the
increase of prices. Some have suggested that we calculate -- the benefits
will
rise based upon inflation, as opposed to wage increases. There is a reform
that would help solve the red if that were put into effect. In other
words, how fast benefits grow, how fast the promised benefits grow, if
those --
if that growth is affected, it will help on the red.

It's okay to peek. I just didn't want to offend some of my buddies on the other side of the aisle.

You know, Crow.. I heard him say that too.
It took me by surprise, because I'm sure that some Repugs here have been bitching about the Dems trying to block the President's "plan for Social Security"..
But when questioned he stammered and then said they didn't have a plan... then when the reporter pressed him on it.. I could have swore he said something about no way would they put forth the first proposal...because the first always got shot down? Excuse me if I misunderstood all of this, but I was only half listening.. But if this is correct.. then what he is proposing is that the Democrats come up with a plan for him? Which doesn't make any sense, since he is the one pushing for the change, right??????

Magster: I am not a little boy. I'm of the female persuasion. But thanks for the welcome! I've hesitated over the last few months posting anything new on the RT because I treasure some of the wonderful people in EO who have helped me along the way. And I try not to discuss politics with real-life friends who don't feel the way I do about current politics--unless they're up for a good rip-roarin' argument. I lurk, sometimes, in the RT if nothing else is going on and there's nothing good on TV, late at night. . . .
