I do not like, or watch all the reality shows out there, which seem to be all there is on TV now.
We watch Lost, and movies, but we have watched ABC's Extreme Home Makeover on Sunday nights, you know, the one with TY PENNINGTON and his blowhorn
Ok I'm all for helping people, I really am.
And yes, these people are deserving.
BUT, with that said, why does this 'team' and ABC (and SEARS) go way over the top and make these INCREDIBLY huge monstrous McMansions? I mean Plasma tv's in every room? Really extravagant 'bedrooms' which one could call a suite? 5000 sq feet of home in the middle of low or middle class homes.
I know they give cars and trucks too, so here sits this huge ass home, that is beautiful, and yes! the people that receive them do need help. I know once in awhile they have paid off the mortage note on the old home. But does anyone else think its just a little OVERKILL in these homes they build?
Habitat for Humanity builds decent homes, maybe not extravagant at all, but good solid homes.
I know Sears is getting advertising BIG TIME and ABC is making money, and it IS for a good cause, I just can't see the need to put swimming pools and plasma tvs etc in these.
Ok that is my 'thought' for the day. Anyone else think this show is just too much?

btw the one last night, was a tearful one, I admit. The father was blinded by a bullet, and they had a bunch of kids, they made the home total accesible for him, which was great. But did anyone else catch a glance at the other homes in the neighborhood? They were older ranch homes and the one they built was a humogous home, that just did not 'fit'.
I wonder how the neighbors feel. I mean some of these shows, I'm sure some are very deserving also and 'down on their luck' too..

What I wondered NTS is how are they going to pay the taxes. I agree the homes are way to large and the ammentities are a lot. Much more than a person needs. I haven't watched it in quite a long time. I think the last time was about a month or so ago.
I am not to much a sitcom or series watcher as I am a reality show watcher. Las Vegas is the only one I watch. I think the amazing race is great. What opportunity for those racers to see the world. They were in parts of the country that we would never see if it wasn't for that show and also Survivor. I don't agree with many of the things on survivor but I like it when they visit the villages of the tribes. Rather interesting.

I would like to see them do more homes like the ones they did in Denver. They selected two families out of homeless shelters and put them into two homes they built. The families are given job training and help finding employment and two years in the home. At the end of two years they are rotated out of the house and hopefully out onto their own feet and the process starts over again with new families from the shelter.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Yes fenix I was thinking about that one but I couldn't remember where it came from. I liked that one also. I think they need to do more of them instead of just giving the home to them.

Gees, how about just feeling good for these people getting these nice homes? It is a show that is suppose to make us all feel better about not only ourselves, but our neighbors as well. This is a great family show IMHO, should only be looked at in this manner.

Think I've seen this once or twice, Near, and I agree...with the homes the way they are built and supplied with all the expensive 'goodies' they could help so many more families with the same funds.

I've had many questions on this show.
1) How do the people pay the taxes on these new barns.
(ok, On 1 show they redid the family farm but also redid the business infrastructure.)
2) What about taxes?? Aren't a $500K house and $60K scholarship "gifts"?
3) How do they afford the upkeep? Granted the new houses are probably the highest in efficiency, but aquariums the size of Sea World and arena size rooms have to cost a lot more to maintain.
