I don't understand how Blair won, when so many Brits were against the War in Iraq?

Bush won and now Blair, guess the war isn't that important after all.

He won on the economy and jobs issues. Not on the war issue. He also won with a sharply reduced number of Parliament seats. Not an overwhelming victory by a long shot.

"The slip in Labour’s lead could loosen Blair’s grip on power and prompt calls for him to step down before he has served a full five-year term. His Cabinet colleague and rival, powerful Treasury chief Gordon Brown, is widely regarded as his likely successor. . .

Democratic Party volunteers from the United States joined Blair’s campaign. Bush’s Republican White House has kept the Conservatives at arms length in deference to his alliance with Blair."

BTW - the Labour party is the equivalent to the Democratic party here.

Ron I think their elections are a little different then over here. They are actually voting for the "Labor Party" and not Tony Blair per say even thou hes the head of it.Since they are not involved in the war as much as we are,
it might not have been a major issue with the United Kingdom. There were probably more pressing issues with them then just the war.
Of course if Im wrong on this,Im SURE someone will come in here and correct me LOL

edit to add-well I see Cheryl was posting the same time I did-and her information is better then mine

Classic

You're right. It is different. They use a good old fashioned pencil and an X to vote. They don't vote for a particular person, but for a party. My pal in London has been educating me on it. As they leave the polls, they are checked to make sure they've returned their pencils. Hey, whatever works.
