And on a non political, religious, whatever note

Has anyone here tried those stand alone portable AC's.

My daughter and her husband live in an apt., but they have a sweet deal going there. Its 1200 sq ft. 2 'master bedrooms with bath' totally separate laundry room, its just BIG for an apt, and under $700 a month, that is a great deal, esp for in the Puget Sound area. They are going to wait to buy and use his VA loan

Anyway, I want to buy one of these AC units for them, esp, for the baby, as I know it will get hot on a 2nd floor apt. and if its anything like last summer, they need it.

This is what they look like

Yikes! hope that links and the image comes up!

So, anyone know about these, and what do you think?

From the description of the website, looks like a good unit.I was thinking about getting two of these kind."Classics" getting a little old to be lifing the portable air condition units-damn things are heavy.

you also might want to try to see if they have them on Ebay-probably cheaper.

Hi NearTheSea - Never had any experience with one of these...but what a great and thoughtful gift for them.

Do they sell a portable one with higher BTU's though? 12,000 is not very much power, so depending on if they're only going to use it in only one room or not...it may or may not meet their needs. Since it's portable though...and if it's only going to be for their, say upstairs bdrm, might just work.

I can't remember what the highest BTU rating is for sure, but I believe it's 18,000 before you have to, by CA code anyway, go from a plug in unit to a wired-into the house electricity..main wire system. [to be up to code] But should they offer a higher BTU rating AC, I'd take that one instead.

Don't know if that makes any sense or not...but this little unit might just fill the bill for them.
