Anyone want to see Rumsfeld do this?

The full Rumsfeld?

PETA has invited Donald Rumsfeld to go naked.

The president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals — which runs those “I’d rather go naked than wear fur” ads — has faxed a letter to the Secretary of Defense, inviting him to participate in the Running of the Nudes. The annual event is a protest against the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain, which many animal-rights activists decry as inhumane. A biography of Rumsfeld revealed that he once participated in the Running of the Bulls.

“I invite you to tip the scales back a bit by coming to Spain to participate in the Running of the Nudes — also called the Human Race — an alternative to the cruel spectacle that occurs three days later,” PETA president Ingrid Newkirk wrote to Rumsfeld. “We all live and learn, and we often become more caring as we age. PETA would be pleased to welcome you to run with representatives from Spain and from around the world, wearing as much or as little as you like.”

Deputy Director of the Pentagon Press Office Colonel Keck told The Scoop, “On the record, all I can say is that I am unaware if the Secretary of State has had the opportunity to read this correspondence so I cannot comment on this.”

Ingrid's letter...a little too diplomatic for my taste.

May 12, 2005

The Honorable Donald H. Rumsfeld
Secretary of Defense
1000 Defense Pentagon
Washington, DC 20301-1000

1 page via fax: 703-695-1219

Dear Secretary Rumsfeld:

You have said that you weren't aware of the abuses at Abu Ghraib, but I don't want you to be caught in the same position over the torture of another group of individuals who, while different from the average American citizen in many ways, still bleed, feel pain, and experience fear just as we do. Because people can change over the years, I would like to get the story straight from you, rather than relying on old newspaper accounts of what you said about this shameful matter when you were NATO ambassador.

Will you please tell me whether your views on bullfighting have changed since you personally "ran with the bulls" in Pamplona? I believe that you can safely say that like most, you had no idea until now that before reaching the streets in Pamplona, the bulls are debilitated with laxatives, blinded with Vaseline smeared into their eyes, and agitated with firecrackers and whips to make them stampede. You probably didn't realize that the bulls who crash onto the cobblestones, bruising and breaking their horns and limbs, are the very same animals tortured to death in the arena that night, having their ears cut off by a matador (literally "killer" while they are still conscious.

I'm happy to note that bullfighting is a dying business. It has now been banned in several Spanish cities. I hope that you will add your voice to this sign of progress and awareness that all torture is wrong.

I invite you to tip the scales back a bit by coming to Spain to participate in the Running of the Nudes— also called the Human Race—an alternative to the cruel spectacle that occurs three days later.

We all live and learn, and we often become more caring as we age. PETA would be pleased to welcome you to run with representatives from Spain and from around the world, wearing as much or as little as you like.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Very truly yours,

Ingrid E. Newkirk
President, PETA

PETA??? Think anyone actually believes anything they say anymore after their 'dirty little secret' was let out of the bag?
I don't.

Always good to be informed BEFORE giving your hard-earned money to a group of nuts like this.

Yes, blame everything on PETA. Don't pay any attention to the people that starve, abuse, injure or psychologically ruin young and old animals for thrills... so much so that they become unadoptable.

Since you are against PETA, Linda, how many people do you know that have taken in abused animals, sparing them from being destroyed? You have no idea about animal abuse.

Now we hear from our board 'don't eat meat' spokeswomen...who apparently see's no problem with a group that collects money for the PROTECTION of animals...but in fact is killing them.

No wonder you liberals vote the way you do.

Yes, Linda. An animal's life is just as important as our own. It's just hard for most people to realize. Just because society labels one group as pets and the other as food, doesn't mean they all don't have feelings. Maybe next time you visit a slaughterhouse, you can tell me which is more humane - that or euthanizing an abused animal.

KD - We BREED animals to EAT...always have. Probably always will.

The number of animal PETA claims to wish to save wouldn't be being consumed IF they weren't being bred to eat. And this also includes eating fish...they're against that too. YOU EAT fish....so complain to them..not me. We each make our own choices on what we want to eat. That's called having FREEDOM from those who would like to control others.

Look at it like your statements on drugs. If there weren't people who wanted to use drugs...there'd be no demand. Same thing applies here...if there weren't people who wanted to EAT animals...there'd be no demand.

Linda, we also BREED animals for pets. So what? We're talking ethics. In my opinion, it's more ethical to euthanize an animal that's unadoptable than to semi-electrocute a cow (they call it stun), hang it up by it's feet with big steel chains, run a huge saw blade down it's front to let it's beating heart bleed, then chop off it's head - all WHILE STILL ALIVE. Do you think that's ethical just because it's been done that way for so long?

P.S. As for fish, I've weaned myself off them as well. It took about 2 years but I'm now meat free.

Kraft, that is not how they slaughtered our cow(s) when we had a small farm
But,not sure anymore how they do it in a large slaughter house
(you probably would scream if you knew how they came out to our place and did it)

Also, how do you get protien? My daughter is what she calls a 'vegatarian' the only thing she won't eat is BEEF, but she'll eat deer, bacon, and poultry. But she eats very little of those. She is 24 and is very small, she scares me. Right now she looks ok, but has been in the past very pale, and a 'sickly' looking. To where I insist she see a dr. (and she doesn't live at home)

KD - You and I have been down this 'path' more than once. It's a choice...what we choose to eat.

I'm glad people like those loonies in PETA are being exposed for what they claim they do verses what, in reality, they are doing.

That was my intent - to point that out. I have no desire to go down this 'people shouldn't be allowed to eat meat' road again. To me...it's their choice to do so or not. I respect both those who choose not to and those who wish to. But I whole-heartedly OBJECT to those who wish to force their BELIEF system on others. Sound familiar?

Near, I'm talking about commercial slaughterhouses. Prof and I have talked about this before. He slaughters his own but does it in a humane way. Even he is against commerial slaughtering techniques.

As for protein, many don't realize there's vegetable protein which is better for you, but that's another story. If your daughter still eats meat and she's pale, it's because she needs iron and Vitamin C. Tell her to start taking 1000 mg. time-released Vit. C, at least once a day (I take 4 a day) and an iron pill every morning. Tell her to get "Ferrous Gluconate" - 300 mg. She'll notice a difference within a week.

I could go into how some of the chemicals they inject into meat interferes with absorbtion, leaving you worse off than before you ate the meat, but I won't.

You're right Linda. I could go on and on and on about meat and animal treatment, but I won't. What I will say, is most of us were brought up to eat meat and a vegetarian lifestyle wasn't really an option. Now that people are becoming more aware of what they're eating, more are opting for a meatless diet, especially kids, which is a good thing.

Your hamburger was asking you
