I got this from a friend. I can't vouch for the accuracy but it sounds reasonable:

There has been an average of 160,000 troops stationed in Iraq during the last 22 months.

During this time the firearm death total was 2,112 for a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000.

The rate in Washington DC is 80.6 per 100,000. That means that you are more likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of Washington,

That comparison, used to minimize the number of deaths in Iraq, is insulting to the memory of those who died in the service of this country. I suppose it means to you that Iraq is just another..."Hot Time In The City?" You think much like your friend Linda who compares the number of soldiers killed to the number of civilians killed in traffic accidents! Both of you need a reality check and a lesson in how to relate one fact to another. You may as well compare the number of Iraq deaths to the number of people who died of aids or cancer or heart attacks. Does such comparison serve to alleviate guilt for you two?

Even if I was in favor of this war and only one soldier was killed in Iraq, it would not make any sense to point out that during that periond 5 homicides occurred at the same time in the District of Columbia. You may remember when Rumsfeld made this clumsy gaffe in an effort to minimize the death toll in Iraq. His remark was critized all across the country. D.C. Mayor, Anthony A. Williams called his comments, "unfortunate, unappreciated and ill-advised."

Hiding caskets and efforts to minimize the number of killed soldiers by such illogical comparisons will not hide the awful truth that is now recognized by the majority of all Americans.

You’re a sick person Helen. You draw conclusion from a sordid dark pit from somewhere I can't fathom. You are the only one that only thinks of the thorns on a rose and not the flower, the pit in a peach.

I just don't understand your darkness and hatreds.

But all the same. I forgive you.

Amen,

missed this before....very good.

And the one's that ARE choosing to stay...want to have their guns back.

I'd read a similar statement that compared the number of the deaths of our soldiers to the crime rate in Chicago, alone, for one year.

But, hey, I'm the one that upset them when I posted we lose 40,000 lives a year in car accidents. They think it somehow diminishes our respect for all the lives that are lost. But they're oh so wrong.
