Yes, I agree. Congratulations are in order for her and her accomplishment.
I thought she was going to do it for a while but when she didn't do that pit stop that made it iffy if she had enough gas so she had to go easy. All her mother said she wanted her to finish the race.
Did you watch the ceremony before the race. It sure was a tear jerker.

I will have to google the story. Last I saw it before I feel asleep she was in 1st then running 4th.

I used to drag race, nothing big. Car finally got under a 10 second 1/4 mile, just moving the car from HI to the midwest. (Change in climate, I guess.) Expensive hobby that I can no longer justify, much less afford! I'll watch almost any racing, (NASCAR, Drag, Jetskis, Motocross, Horse, etc).
I guess it's all about the POWER under you.

That's how it finished Dbl. She might have been able to finish in 3rd had it not been for the last few laps being run under yellow. Everyone was sucking fumes at the end, even the winner ran out of gas on his victory lap and had to be pushed to victory lane.
As far as Robby Gordon goes... as one of the drivers put it today. "He doesn't speak for the pack".

Well, with "classic" male thinking , some dork said it wasn't fair to the men because she weighs only 100 pounds.
Thus leading one to believe that the male drivers must all weigh the same which, of course, they don't

Dbl - It was Robby Gordon. Please note the first name of ROBBY. This is not the much better known Jeff Gordon who is a NASCAR driver. Danica is an IRL driver - two VERY different animals.
Robby is a NASCAR driver but more of an owner these days and is apparently well known for snacking on his foot on a semi-regular basis.

Sorry dopey, but a 100lb woman vs a 160lb male means 60lbs of extra fuel and THAT isn't fair.

I don't think your "science" on fuel is accurate desquirrel, on the pounds of fuel
but......
Do all the male driver's weigh the same ????
Are they given additional weights if they are lighter than another driver......I've never heard of that ???

desquirrel is correct....as usual.
At the finish of dirt track racing, the cars are weighed to confirm it was a legit race. Weight is a very important factor.
I know when our youngest son was racing midgets...he was very thin and many of the older 'gent's' would challenge a win to be sure his car was within proper weight requirements. HIS weight DID make a difference.
And I also think it's great to see other women making it to this level of racing...and doing so well.

"AGAIN ...do all the male racers weigh the same ?????"
well yes they do as a matter of fact. The weight they must conform to is 170.However some male penis's are bigger then others,so they would actually weigh a little more.Since the vehicles weigh over 1,000 pounds this shouldn't slow down the vehicles to any significant speed.....unless your name is John Holmes

Crow - no, they do not all weigh the same but in some styles of racing they are all weight balanced by way of balast. Additional weight is added to each car depending on the weight of the driver so that no one driver has weight advantage over another.
Desquirrel -
::Sorry dopey, but a 100lb woman vs a 160lb male means 60lbs of extra fuel and THAT isn't fair.::
Um... hmmm... that's some interesting logic you got there dopey. It is however defied by that single regulation size fuel tank in each car. Each car carries the same amount of gas. Hell, if she had been able to carry all that extra fuel she would not have had to back off the lead in the final laps and would have won the race.

So what you're saying, fenix, is that in this style of racing it doesn't matter what anyone weighs it will be all balanced out.
Makes that guy's statement even more stupid.

No, not in Indy cars which was Gordons complaint. Thing is that Gordon stating that he would not race against Danica until it was corrected was just so much hot air considering that he doesn't race or own a car in the Indy series. He is a NASCAR owner. In NASCAR she would have a much larger advantage since their drivers are bigger guys. Indy car drivers tend to be much smaller because of slight construction of the car.
None of the actual drivers or owners she was driving against voiced any complaints. If nothing else, they all know she brings more attention to the circuit. More attention means more sponsors. More sponsors means more money.

Other things being equal....one's weight will have the same effect on a win as does how MUCH fuel a driver/their team decides to carry.
Not all cars, when refuel decide to 'top-it-off'. That's part of the challenge in racing...it's not just the car...it's not just the drivers personal skills...it's not just track conditions....it's a TON of other factors - decisions made - on what tires will do best...what air pressure they'll have....AND on how much fuel they'll drive with.
Some under-estimate the fuel they'll need...and don't end up finishing the race.

Rules and regs are extremely stringent. Often the winner is determined by whose crew chief can cheat the best or who can make 10 pit stops instead of 11.

fenix - My point was that Robby Gordon has driven different types of race cars....as most race car drivers have. They switch between the many varied racing organizations.
Gordon has driven Indy cars at the 500 and in other Indy-type races.
Maybe I mistook what you said when you stated"
Robby is a NASCAR driver... and Thing is that Gordon stating that he would not race against Danica until it was corrected was just so much hot air considering that he doesn't race or own a car in the Indy series. He is a NASCAR owner.
. Because he has driven all kinds of different type of race cars.
And I agree the different racing groups have different rules/requirements.
But weight does make a difference. Less weight to pull...faster the car can go.

So back to my point:
""said it wasn't fair to the men because she weighs only 100 pounds.
Thus leading one to believe that the male drivers must all weigh the same which, of course, they don't""
If weight matters then there must be rules.
If there are rules on weight they must have been applied to all the racers.
Therefore the statement was still stupid.
If there are no rules on weight then the implication is that all male racers weigh the same which of course, is not true....so the statement is still stupid.
