Of course we only learned of them AFTER the fact.

Anyone in Northern California? Fenix aren't you in Ca somewhere?

They sounded the Tsunami warning on the WA beaches, the one we go to regularly no one left, but I heard some in Oregon evacuated and the most NW tip of WA did.

They (whoever 'they' are ) say that a tsunami could hit Puget Sound, but I doubt that

Anyone in the quake area, if so, hope everything is ok!

NearTheSea - I think the initial alert was called off within an hour or so of it first being announced.

This alert system is all so silly, imo. In CA, it was a warning to the WHOLE state...from the Mexican border to the top of the state.

Cresent City, as you may already know, is near the northern CA border. To have made the alert apply all the way down to the Mexican border is just nuts. Maybe they should have also warned all the states east of CA too.

But we're going to be seeing more and more of these warnings since we were blamed for not announcing a warning when the asian tsunami hit. So now...in order to 'cover their xxx's' they'll just upset everyone when it's not necessary at all.

I don't think that you are in a position to second guess a tsunami warning and call it silly. When scientists determined very quickly that the wave would not be dangerous, the warning was lifted. Better safe than sorry.

In the spring of 1964, a magnitude-8.4 quake in Alaska generated tsunamis that caused damage there and in British Columbia, and in the states of Washington, California and Hawaii. More than 120 died.

I remember there was a 'big' earthquake in the 60's here. Not sure exactly what year.
I know it scared the #$% outta me, only because my mother and grandmother took us out to the driveway, and my grandmother got on her knees and was praying.

Pictures got knocked off the wall, and some china broke. I don't remember what on the reichter scale it was, to me, back then, it was big (and scary!)

but we've had small quakes through the years, and I'm sure we're due for a big one some day soon..

NTS it was posted in the EO when it was first announced as many of the posters knew that Sanmar and Lucy lived in the SF area but they didn't post it down here

I think when something like that happens many people that might not be affected must be warned just in case. I know with tornado's it happens here and now it is tornado season so lots of warnings are appearing.
