Washington needs to work on important issues like health care not semi nude statues. An Example of another wacko far right wing government waste of time and money below
With Ashcroft Gone, Justice Department Statues Disrobe
New Attorney General Gonzales Signs Off on Change
By MARK SHERMAN, AP
AP John Ashcroft had the Spirit of Justice statue covered with drapes.
WASHINGTON (June 24) - With barely a word about it, workers at the Justice Department Friday removed the blue drapes that have famously covered two scantily clad statues for the past 3 1/2 years.
Spirit of Justice, with her one breast exposed and her arms raised, and the bare-chested male Majesty of Law basked in the late afternoon light of Justice's ceremonial Great Hall.
The drapes, installed in 2002 at a cost of $8,000, allowed then-Attorney General John Ashcroft to speak in the Great Hall without fear of a breast showing up behind him in television or newspaper pictures. They also provoked jokes about and criticism of the deeply religious Ashcroft.
The 12-foot, 6-inch aluminum statues were installed shortly after the building opened in the 1930s.
Below is the results of a straw poll taken about this issue.
Should the drapes have stayed on the statues?
No 82%
Yes 18%
Total Votes: 202,369
Like I said before this White House needs to spend time working on something important like health insurance for 46 million Americans without it. Maybe this White House could start by using the Porn money it took at the Presidents Dinner.

What do you have against Porn?
The government does not owe any American health insurance. That is not their responsibility and I am glad that we are not some socialistic society that does support National Healthcare.
What the governement does need to do is look at all the wasted time trying to stop illegal drug use, same sex marriage, prostitution, and other archaic laws. Not bring in more government.

Peepa does seem to have an obession with porn issues. The amazing thing is how completely niave he is regarding this issue he so obsessed with. A stripper that bought a ticket to a political dinner. So what.
It's this time is small minded petty ignorance that makes the groups whose views he claims to represent look bad.
It's a 10 billion day a year industry that will probably see it's biggest company being traded publicly in the next two years. It's also one of the few things providing profit to General Motor and AOL/Time Warner these days. Of course they are going to have political financial involvement. Don't be niave.

washington and fenix, its not my views about Porn that you should be thinking about. I am glad to see a deeply religious man like President Bush endorsing Porn by taking money from well known XXX film stars and producers. It means like Rock and Roll, Porn is here to stay.
Besides my post was not about Porn you people brought that up not me.
My point for this Post was, An Example of a far right wing wacko like John Ashcroft waisting time and public money covering up beautiful statues. When 46 million Americans are without Health Insurance a far more important issue.

This post is about the wacko Ashcroft wasting time and money covering up statues when that time and money should have gone to a better cause.
Libra63, you are right I did forget I mentioned your President taking Porn money.
But I want you to know something. What is far more important to me than my mistake is the reaction I am getting from older people. When talking politics I ask them (did you know President Bush is now taking Porn money)? Many of these people are shocked and don't like it at all.
I am sure I can get a lot of votes for the Democrats in 2006 and 2008 on the Porn Money issue along. I really couldn't care less if George and Laura watch Porn or not or if you do for that matter. I am just using the Porn Money issue to get votes for Democrats that is all I really care about Porn one way or the other. Its working Libra believe me its working. It seems that a lot of these older people relate taking Porn money to low morals and low standards on Bush's part.
Every vote I can take away from wacko right wing republicans in my opinion is a tiny step towards a better America.

What do you consider porn money. Be specific.
Evidently you don't remember when you were young and there was brothels in every city. Hawaii was full of them and that is where the service men went after their tour of duty.
Don't tell me it is the older person because I don't believe you. Even if you consider your self an older person you can't be that dense. I worked in a city close to a city that was nothing but strip joints and call girls. Do you call them porn because if you do many men were the customers. They paid taxes. The bars pay taxes. Do you consider that porn money?
So what there are devices out in the adult stores or videos. So what they both men and women use those devices and watch them. The stores and merchandise are legal and they pay taxes.
So who is taking the porn money. Both governments. Be sure and tell your seniors that.

Mags - I drive or walk into Mexico and there is no customs declaration, just a polite nod to the guys at the crossing.
Peepa - What are 12? Grow up! If you are going to remain obsessed with this issue could you please actually bother to learn something about it? The only people that are going to switch on that topic are the terminally drunk or those too damn stupid to be able to properly fill out voter registration forms to begin with. Both parties get money from corporations that in some way shape or form derive profits from pornography.
Libra - He is referring to former Porn Actress and candiate for Ca Govenor Mary Cary and her boss,a porn producer, attending a 2,500 a plate dinner where Bush spoke a couple weeks ago.

fenix, Again I care nothing about the Porn issue one way or the other. I only use it to get votes for Democrats. Yes,it is working lots of older people are shocked when they learn about Bush taking Porn Money. Plus I really don't care what Bush does because he is a very lame duck. Right now I use Bush's record and mistakes looking to get votes for Democrats in 2006. Go ahead fenix you keep typing saying what ever you want about me and I will be out there looking for votes.
Pennsylvania Sen Rick Santorum is another PHONY right wing wacko that is on his way out in 2006.
Tomorrow I have several appointments so you all know I will be looking to get a couple more votes for Democrats in 2006. YES...

So are you saying that people involved in the porn industry are lesser citizens that do not have the right to spend their money where they wish?
Seems that by trying to rake the republican party over the coals because Mary Cary attended one of their events you are saying that they should have denied her the basic rights afforded to every other individual that attended.
And you think that this attitude is postitive represention of the democratic party?

Fenix you can bank on me looking for votes for Democrates tomorrow and every day after.
BTW,Bush's record and mistakes are making my job eaiser almost daily.

Wash- I am so thankful for Conservatives who are not hypocrites. I was waiting for a flight out of PDX about 3 years ago and ended up at the airport bar sitting next to a conservative from Montana. It was one of the most refreshing conversations I had in a long time. I remember him saying, "if you mix religion with politics you're a hypocrite." As I left, I bought him another round of Mirror Pond and smiled as I caught my flight to Florida.

Peepa - you are not answering the question.
Do you expect republicans to make moral judgements on individuals and then ban those that they feel are immoral. It certainly seems that that is what you are endorsing.

What we need are politicians that don't talk out of both sides of their mouths. The Republicans are on the hot seat right now, but there are Democrats that are just as corrupt representing us as we speak. Personally, I would love to see Lieberman go. He's got one foot over the fence.

Actually, the answer to this was supposedly that the drapes were put on because the "unbiased" press always managed to take photos showing the statue's breasts on top of Ashcroft's head and he got tired of it.
