I am just about at my wit's end. In April, my daughter brought home a case of staph from daycare ( I think).
Since we have all (except one)had it and just keep passing it around. We might as well just buy a keg of antibiotics. I wash towels in bleach and use clorox spray religiously.
We took her in for the 7th time this morning, she has a huge spot on her arm that is about to rupture. The doctor acted like it was not a big deal, that there were tons of cases in my area and gave us a sulfa-antibiotic with 4 refils.
She is complaining on and off of her tummy hurting, I really don't know if this has to do with staph or bedtime, can't tell.
Anyway, has anyone else seen/had anything like this??
I have 3 kids 12 mos, 3years, and 8 years.
Hopefully someone with personal experience will come along and have something more helpful. I just know that if it was me, I'd take her to a different doctor and see if you get the same sort of attitude.

Oh goodness ... I agree ... staph is nothing to fool around with or to "wait" about.
As you see, your little one is not doing very well, and your dr. says 'not to worry'? ...
YOUR instincts are what you should follow, and you really should get a 2nd and/or 3rd opinion ... even if you have to go to a 'rapid response' type of facility or an E.R. ...
Lord knows, Cheryl will tell you that too, with her little Ryan fellow going through his traumatic experience right now, and HIS momma had been taking HIM to their doctor for a couple months saying 'something just isn't right' about him, and HER doctor kept sending her home telling her she worries too much. Pfffftt!

Staph infections are fairly common. It actually can live on your skin and in your nose for great lengths of time and not be a bother to you at all. You and your family have to constantly wash your hands. I recommend a bottle of the bacteria killing handwash that you don't have to wash off. Before washing your hands, you leave bits of the bacterian on the faucet handle and other areas of your home. I use the stuff you don't wash off for that very reason. Tell your children not to touch their faces. Don't share towels, sheets, or clothing until the infection has been fully treated. Keep skin areas affected by staph infections covered to prevent spreading the infection to other parts of the body. It's stubborn and is easily spread (like childhood head lice).
Good luck to you with this. It can be a royal PIA to get rid of it all the way. I had it as a child. Fortunately, the infection stopped at me and didn't spread to other family members. But, back then we did things as a child like make mud pies, eat dirt, etc. and our parents didn't think anything of it. Therefore, our immune systems were allowed to develope naturally and I think we've been better off for it. We are sanitizing ourselves out of existance, IMO.

Yes I agree staph is very contageous. It will stay in you body for years even with antibiotics. I got is when I was young from ban roll on deodorant and since then it has been a major battle. Every time I get a cut I worry. Haven't had a break out for quite some time but it lies dormant and you never know when it will appear.
Good Luck and make sure with the sulfa that she drinks a lot of water.

Wash your hands, and right after you do, pick up the phone and make an appointment for a second opinion. Do it real soon. Modern staph infections are scary.

I 100% agree with the profe....please don't mess around with this....it can be life-threatening.
Also...you might ask the new doctor what you need to do to the house, cars, etc. to disinfect them properly. Or...look online for that information. A site like www.webmd.com might be a good starting place.
