ok. so I go into WA-WA which is fairly new down here. Upscale 7-11 type store with a deli. They make pretty good sandwiches for convenience store-type deli's (better than subway, i think.) I order me a roastbeef and the hubby a chicken breast thing cause he doesnt like rare meat. I am standing on line to pay for it, and the deli guy comes up to me and says they are out of kaiser rolls for the chicken sandwich, but they could put it on white bread. So I said, white bread? No. Put it on a sub roll. And he says, no, we cant do that. Me: What do you mean you cant do that? Slice it sideways and put it on a sub roll? Him: No, we dont do that here. Me: (Now I am annoyed)..well, cancel the whole thing then. I am not paying six dollars for a chicken sandwich on white bread!!
lol! Am I wrong? Who wants to pay for a chicken sandwich on white bread?? The roll is the best part of the 'sub' sandwich.
I cannot for the life of me understand the ridgedy of him not seeing his way to to put it on a subway roll?

I think i would have taken that as an opportunity to get the sandwich at a discounted price. I think i would have said, ok then since you are out of Kaiser rolls then how about letting me have it for half price and if he says ok then i would say well then give me 2.

lol Pi, I thought of that myself afterwards, but I was so annoyed with his attitude saying they 'dont do that here'. And I was pizzed I didnt get my sandwich. Definitly, spited myself
Wound up going to the grocery store and buying some hot italian sausage and then I fried it up with some peppers and onions and we ate that. (Of course, bought the grocery store sub rolls)

I would of done the same, seems like customer service half assed anymore.
It would not of put him out to put it on a sub roll.

Near yes, it is called Wa-Wa. They are out of PA/NJ. I always liked them better than 7-11's or the other type stores. Big on the Jersey shore mostly.
I remember when I went out west and found out about the OSCO's..(not sure of the spelling as I forget) and then finding out what that meant in spanish! (throw-up! lol)
Ron, the thing to me was, like, are you so stuck in a box everything has to be done just one way? He was a young kid though. I think had it been somebody else, they might have offered the discount because they're usually pretty nice in there ...but it just really put me off.But man, I had wanted that sandwich! !lol! Maybe another day....
edit to add: But youre right, Ron. CS aint what it used to be. It's like they'd rather just say fu- like they dont know how they are supposed to talk to customers anymore?

Your first mistake was not packing heat when you knew ahead of time you'd be dealing with real life people, Double.
posted on August 25, 2005 09:03:58 PM new
That's right....we can pack heat here in our town...and many do.
--------------------
But I sure agree about the CS ....just ain't what she used to be...few care about pleasing the customer anymore...and then some wonder why they fold up or lose customers.
I think this happens because a lot of stores don't have the owner or even a manager on sight. So...to the young kids...doesn't make a difference to them one way or the other. It's the owners bottom line that takes the loss. But that's how things are now that big companies own these places rather than the old mom and pop stores where they were watching EVERYTHING their workers did or didn't do.
I'm sorry, dbl, you didn't get your sandwiches. I know when something sounds really good at the time....and you're thinking about how great it's going to taste, while you're driving to go get it...and then...your situation. bummer.

What in the world did you expect from a store called WA-WA?
WA-WA???????....obviously conceived. and no doubt run, by morons.

Hey kraft, if you knew me in person, you'd know I dont even need heat. I am that type of person that if looks and attitude could kill, I'd have seen the death penalty a thousand times over in my life already!
Profes, it must mean something but I dont have a clue what. Is Osco a better name for a store when it means throw-up? lol!!

and actually, profes imo, their stores are always very nice. Clean, easy to navigate.Prices pretty good.. And They offer you a bevy of choices with coffees! With real milk, cream half&half, skim milk. Theres like 6 things you can chose from. Not just those artifical cream or powered things. I hate those!

LOL Linda, since we dont eat out that much, it was going to be a treat of sorts! haha! I'll catch up with it another day. The S&P was good and not too much of a cleaning job after.
But youre right about CS. Even the other day, I went down to Fed EX. Here I am thinking they are open to 7:00 and I have plenty of time. I get there right about 5:00 and by the time I wrote up the BL its about 4 minutes after 5:00, and the girl looks at me and says air express? or whatever other option came out of her mouth. And I said, oh no, I need this go ground. She looks at me all dead pan and says, "We dont do ground after 5:00". So I was like oh, okay. lump that, huh? But I drove away thinking, I never did that in CS. I mean, I always tried to soften the blow and at least say, I'm sorry maam, we only do ground until 5:00. I dont know, I always tried to accomdate people where I could or how I could, even if that meant saying sorry, its just the company policy. I thought that was part of my job. I mean, here she see's me with this big box I lug in there - and its like fu! No empathy or anything! Not that I ever didnt have a day where I wasnt in the mood, but I think I pretty much still managed to act appropriately even if I had an edge to it. When youre in CS its something you train yourself to do. ::Shrug::

My favorite was when I moved out west from the easy coast and discovered a line of grocery stores call Skaggs. Where I had come from a Skagg was a slut/tramp/etc.
My other favorite of course is Bimbo - a Hostess type bread/bakery line from Mexico that has moved into the US. I think it's the combination of the name and the cute little white baker bear mascot that get me.

Definitely, front-line employees need to be given the power to make on the spot decisions. I agree!
Reminds me of a time in the mid-60s; we were relative newlyweds, living in Las Vegas. The inlaws came to visit from California and we took them to our favorite buffet, the Hacienda (then at very end of the Strip, now gone). Inlaws and hubby ordered soft drinks; I ordered iced tea.
Waitress comes to the table after our first round of platefuls and asks if anyone wants more soft drinks (on the house, of course). I told her I wanted a refill on my iced tea. She said, sorry, we can't do that; we'd have to charge you again. I went ballistic and got on my broom (in a low-key genteel way, you understand). Argued with her. Look, I said, the soft drinks cost more than iced tea, etc., etc. She was adamant. It was the Hacienda's "policy."
My inlaws, who were the kind of people who never question authority, were humiliated that I would argue with the waitress. They were already a bit leery of me because I'd made it know that I was a feminist--an early one at that! My husband just looked on and smiled (because he knows me well). I never shouted or raised my voice, but I kept at it.
Stupid, stupid, stupid policy--which I remember to this day.

Road-I stayed at the Hacienda. I was on a 6 week vacation and drove from NY to CA.On my way back if I remember correctly the Hacienda was the first Hotel on the left as your entering Las Vegas.I drove I-10 from Santa Barbara to Jacksonville,Fl.I remember driving from El Paso to Houston,Tx-there wasnt much in between for hundreds of miles.

Yes, the Hacienda was the first hotel on the left as you entered Vegas, coming from Calif. It was never very fancy, but the buffet was outstanding, for $1.49, all you can eat. Of course we had to walk through all the slot machines to get to the food (smart strategy for all the hotels). My husband would put a dime or a quarter into a machine and usually win enough to pay our babysitter. I never won much of anything. I'd always load up a plate of sour-cream herring first, my favorite.

I think I stayed there because it was cheap LOL
But it was a nice place.I took this trip in 1969,so my memory of it has faded.I've been back to Vegas in Feb of 1970(for two weeks)-Jan of 71 and July of 74(for two weeks) havent been back since then.I have seen recent videos of the place and wouldnt even recognize it now. They gave away these booklets if you were from out of state and you got free meals all over the place.
