I would like to see world peace, no single government only states. All would be governed from Washington D.C.
Communism, socialism would all be wiped out only American standards of capitalism would exist.

Only one currency, US dollar.

People would be still maintain any religon and language they wanted, but english would be taught to everyone.

No visas, no passports no war. All living the American way, that is my vision.

Wow. I can't believe the socialist-liberal diversity-worshipping kooks haven't jumped all over you on this one.

I was just discussing with someone just this morning the fact that too much diversity isn't always a good thing.

English is the widely used language when conducting business internationally. In addition, English is taught as a second or third language in many schools globally. The problem I have encountered is that English is read and comprehended better than spoken. Dialects, accents and slangs make understanding english difficult for people that have english as a second or third language.

Ron, what is your meaning of the American way? There are so many cultures and traditions within America. The USA was founded on people from other countries seeking assylum and freedom of persecution for their beliefs. Do you mean Democracy and Capitalism as "the American way"?

World Peace...yes! No Wars. No Conflicts. I doubt I will see world peace ever becoming a reality as stated above. History has documented wars, conflicts, occupations and persecutions of one race or religion since the species of man walked the earth.

I have one vote and use it to select the people that have similar beliefs and goals as my own to govern my city, county, state and nation. Oftentimes it is the selection of the lesser of two evils. It is my voice as an american living in a democratic society. That is the most important action I can do as an American to achieve any semblance of the goal of world peace. IMHO

OK, Profe, what's your sig line say?

Babelfish tells me:
"It was by wool and it left trasquilado"

Somehow, I doubt that was your meaning.

chimpchamp: "World Peace...yes! No Wars. No Conflicts."

That would be nice. That would also mean telling at least half the world "No" to their way of life and convincing them to live with it.

HOW would you IMPOSE peace on the world? There are people out there who do not want peace.

This kinda goes back to last week's genocide thread when you get to the bottom line.

Democracy and Capitalism are the base of the American way.

Whatever culture they have is fine as long as America comes first. Lets face it most people strive for what we have, I say give it to them

Instead of United States of America, it would be Untied States of Earth.

Oh yes everyone would have the opportunity to vote, I whole heartedly believe in that process.

I know probably not realistic but hey what fantasy is?

I agree replaymedia. World peace would be nice. An entire planet like Shangrila or the Garden of Eden. I am also realistic enough to know it won't happen.

As Ron's subject title asked..."What is your vision of world peace?"

If you read enough science fiction, the usual scenario is that when the aliens finally appear, Earth will band together under one united government (uaually for defensive reasons).

I wonder if, in reality, if nasty aliens revealed themselves to the world, what our reaction would be? Unity, or just quicker destruction?

Often on warm summer evenings, lounging out on the veranda, while sipping cafe-latte and nibbling on raspberry scones i contemplate and imagine whirled peas.

I've never had a vision of 'world peace'. I've never thought it a realistic goal. To see how difficult that would be to have happen....we only need to look at the stong and sometimes hateful statements to opposing party American's to see reality of how impossible it would be for the whole world to accomplish. No way.

Even if aliens attacked. lol. Just look to when we were attacked with 9-11, to see the reactions of those who opposed war. I don't see it being any different with aliens....the dems would just side with them, give them all benefits and ask nothing in return. Anyone who baulked...lol...would be considered a neocon.

And why the American Voters chose to RE-elect President Bush to four more years. YES!!!

World peace? Nice concept, but that would mean eliminating power completely. Power corrupts and many wars have been fought over power. So, how would you do that? Someone would have to be in power. You would still have those that oppose that power or who want to be the ones in power. Like I said, nice concept, but not realistic.

I don't think we'll have world peace until ALL the oil runs out and is used up.

There will never be world peace as long as there is religious division. You think there is any chance that people will disavow religion (not their god, just their religion)?

Fenix, you're certainly not wrong about religion as a divisive power, but there are many additional factors. Race, Class, Gender, Political Ideologies, and even geographical location are every bit as powerful in this sense. There really are just too many factor involved, too many points of opposition for world peace to ever develop spontaneously. An imposed peace (like my alien example) could be a start, but if it's imposed from outside, does it really count?

There will always be points of contention. Look at the hatred between some liberals and conservatives in this country. And we're all SUPPOSED to be on the same side. Assume for a moment that the US covered the globe, and there were no outside forces of any significance. How long until we turned against ourselves?

Conflict is in our nature.

Replay - I don't disagree. Religion is just one of many aspects but seems to be a dominating one in the history of war.

I think the answer to world peace might be a simple lesson we were all taught as small kids. [i]Pay attention to your own stuff, let him/her pay attention to theirs.[i]

I must have been absent that day - I don't recall that lesson.

My vision of world peace - why straight out of Star Trek of course! One world government, one world language - no poverty, no racisim etc. Of course, they never explained how the world evolved to that point.

OK, Profe, what's your sig line say?

It's a "dicho", a spanish proverb or saying. Although it doesn't really translate correctly, spanish speakers know it to mean "He (or she, or you) went looking for wool, and came back shorn." or "He came to buy wool and got fleeced instead."

I'm going to change it to another one, maybe babelfish will have an easier time with it...beats me how anyone uses that translator, I've yet to see it do a decent job on spanish.

Babelfish says:
"Speech whenever you must and shuts up whenever you can"

Still not the best translation, but I think I can grasp the meaning of that one
