I am curious as to who will be the next nominee?

Will President Bush go back to some previous names or once again pick one from outside the circle?

Cindy Sheehan? Al Sharpton?

He's one of the only people the Democrat party will stand behind. Way behind.

Judges Judy, Hatchett, Ephriam, Brown and Mathis are making too much on TV to be bothered with the BullSh*t they would be dragged through.

Did I miss anyone?

Amen,

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Janice Brown.

But I've recently read one new name, that I don't believe I've heard of before...Harriet M. ?? can't remember her last name....and then Gonzales too.

I just hope it's another strick Constrictionist/Constitutionalist.

Maybe we'll end up getting THREE appointed before he leaves office. What happy days that or FOUR would be.

Why would they have to die fenix? Stevens is 85, he might want to retire also.

OK - which one are you hoping will die Linda?

Like that better Ron or do you honestly believe that two more are going to chooe to retire. Guarantee you it won't be liberals that retire during a republican presidency so if LInda is hoping to replace liberal judges she must be hoping that at least one of them will die in the next three years.

If they get another right leaning judge, Ginsberg and Stevens could just tire of losing arguments and want to retire

I really like Janice Rogers Brown - even though she's fairly new - she deserves it after all that crap they put her through with the confirmation process.

I also like the fact she is a 'self made' person. She was the daughter of sharecroppers in Alabama. I think it makes a person stronger and I have a great respect for those who have had to struggle to get where they are.

Off topic, but did any of you watch Commander in Chief last week? I think it's going to be a good one. Not up to West Wing in its depth, but seeing how the First Gentleman was dragged through the White House kitchen gave me some chuckles. "What kind of salad dressing does the President prefer? Should we have a simple salad for luncheon today, or is there something else you'd like?" Etc. etc.

When our university appointed its first woman vice president, her husband just stayed out of things except for the occasional free dinner. We wives, on the other hand, were expected to do all sorts of things for the good of the university--entertain, attend everything, etc.

I don't think there has ever been an Asian on the court. That would be a good pick.

OT - I watched CIC very late last night. I think it has potential. I'll watch it again ....she's a very strong lady and I like it that they've made the part she plays as an Independent.

fenix asks: Just out of curiosity Linda- which two are you hoping will die?

Now THERE'S an assumption if I've ever seen one.

Ron - Along with the ages of both Stevens and Ginsberg....is Ginsberg's health. That could very well be a reason she would retire with a Republican president in office.

According to the American Spectator website:

[i]Rumors are already swirling about a possible third retirement after November. The most likely would be Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who according to former Supreme Court clerks may be in poorer health than Justice Rehnquist.

And I loved your answer to fenix... about them growing tired of being in the minority.

-----
From Robert Novaks column yesterday:

The two names passing through conservative legal circles last week to fill the remaining Supreme Court vacancy were White House Counsel Harriet Miers and Federal Appeals Court Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr.

Miers, a 60-year-old former Dallas City Council member, is a prominent Dallas lawyer without judicial experience. She is close to President Bush, but the pro-life movement questions her position on abortion. She would be the first non-judge named to the Supreme Court since William Rehnquist in 1972.

Nobody questions the conservatism of the 55-year-old Alito. He was named in 1990 by President George H.W. Bush to the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals (New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware) following service as Bush's U.S. attorney for New Jersey and in the Reagan Justice Department.

Bush Taps Harriet Miers for High Court

Should be interesting, she has never been a judge, but did assist with Roberts confirmation.

I am thinking not another Ginsberg.

Ron - have you watched the coverage of this? Conservatives are not happy. they are especially unhappy that she was a Gore contributor.

I find it amusing that they all scream that this is the presidents choice to make and yadda yadda yadda but let him choose someone that has not stood on a roof top and screamed I am against abortion and suddenly they lose their ever lovin minds.

I don't know if I like her or not but I do really enjoy seeing all of these conservatives tossed into a hypocritical tizzy.
