Despite the fact President Bush's job approval ratings have dropped to the lowest point of his presidency, they still remain higher than the low-point ratings of the last seven presidents, including his predecessor Bill Clinton.

A new survey from the Pew Research Center shows Bush's job approval at 38 percent.

"President George W. Bush's poll numbers are going from bad to worse," said the Pew report. "His job approval rating has fallen to another new low, as has public satisfaction with national conditions, which now stands at just 29 percent. And for the first time since taking office in 2001, a plurality of Americans believe that George W. Bush will be viewed as an unsuccessful president."

Data from six polling organizations in October show an average of 39.5 percent job approval for Bush.

But according to the Gallup Organization, that's a higher mark than the low points for all commanders in chief dating back to Lyndon Johnson in the mid 1960s.

The low points for recent commanders in chief are as follows:

# Bill Clinton: 37 percent

# George H. W. Bush: 29 percent

# Ronald Reagan: 35 percent

# Jimmy Carter: 28 percent

# Gerald Ford: 37 percent

# Richard Nixon: 24 percent

# Lyndon Johnson: 35 percent

To find presidents with higher low-point approval ratings than Bush, one has to go back to John Kennedy at 56 percent, and Dwight Eisenhower at 48 percent.

The Power Line blog notes: "The reality is that the Republican base is holding remarkably firm, in the face of a media onslaught against the Bush administration that has no parallel in modern history, and following months of little but bad news: gas prices, hurricanes, and casualties in Iraq (the only news most people hear from that part of the world)."

You know things are bad when, in desperation, folks start saying "yeah, well, his ratings aren't as bad as..." and then bring up people long out of office who have nothing to do with current happenings. But then supporters of Bush & Co. have never stopped looking to the past; they're obsessed by Clinton even now and can't stop talking about him.

I know, bear. They were talking about just this on Fox News yesterday.

Like I said....polls don't mean anything ....13 months is a LONG time in politics and things change weekly.

I'm not concerned for the Republican party....after 5 years the dems STILL are offering NOTHING but criticism...I really don't think they can win elections on only that. And so far....that's ALL they've had to offer.

From Bear the man that don't like polls. Its great fun watching Bear and other NEOCONS trying to defend their failed CON-servative form of government and its Failed leaders.

I am just glad these people are becoming more of a minority everyday. YES!!!

Hey, NEOCONS tell me how well Bush's staged and rehearsed photo opp went yesterday. Do you think the PHONY STAGED AND REHEARSED photo opp will raise Bush's rankings? I need a little more humor today so I'd like to see your twist on the PHONY PHOTO opp. To quoit G.W. "BRING IT ON".

Poor bear forgot to add that 70% of the American people think the country is moving in the wrong direction. Polls from (TODAY OCT.14TH 2005). Unlike desperate people like Bear I don't live in the past.

Colin,
Sorry its not my fault your CON-servative form of government is failing.

Sorry if you don't like me pointing out how desperate CON-servatives are now.

Sorry if I disappointed you by living my life with different ideals than CON-servatives do.

Sorry if I disappointed by working and never being on any government programs what you call welfare.

Sorry if I have run my own business for over 40 years and have been somewhat successful.

Sorry if I want a better America for the little guy and not just the rich.

Sorry if your phony Presidents staged and rehearsed photo oops backfire on him.

Sorry if I stay out of debt so people can't tell me what to do and when to do it.

Your biggest problem is not understanding what real freedom is.

I do not have a college education but did enjoy the good high school education. Yes I got a good High School education before the NEOCONS of today came along and cut funding for high schools.

I am very proud to be one of millions of hard working Liberals that are working to defeat your CON-servative form of government. YES!!!

I seems to me the ones that need to question their thinking ability are people that got tricked and lied to into voting for Bush and his gang. NOT ME!!

BTW, since Bear & his fellow Neocons do obsess so much with Clinton, here is a treat just for them:

Bear's statistic in the OP on Clinton was wrong:

http://www.pollingreport.com/clinton-.htm

This site lists all the major polls; the lowest approval score that Clinton ever got was 42. That was in the Zogby Poll for June, 1997. In fact, the Zogby poll was the only one that ever had Clinton below 50--and most were far higher.

Even the Faux News poll never rated him lower than 54 (in June of 1999); in fact mostly they scored him much higher...

Hey Bear, I enjoy posting current Polls that show the trouble your form of government and its leaders are in.

Its your President and his gang of LIARS and crooks that give me grounds to comment almost daily.

Unlike you I don't live in the past and only post current polls. Sorry if you don't like their results.

I am proud to say I and millions of others didn't get tricked into voting for Bush and his gang of LIARS. YES!!!

Pee,
Real men aren't SORRY. They do nothing to be SORRY for.

I've never been somewhat successful. I've been a success in everything I've done. "If it's worth doing, It's worth doing right!"

Now this statement show how truly obsessed you are.

"Sorry if your phony Presidents staged and rehearsed photo oops backfire on him."

You've posted that statement on every thread here.

Still time to get your college degree, Bigpee. That would make you successful...not somewhat successful.

Maybe then you could see the big picture ...see the trees through the forest. You have a lack of comprehending anything new and/or different.

I graduated from high school in 1963 at 16. Never got to college till I was 28..A couple years at a community college. Then many years later I was working at Rensselaer PolyTech....and was able to get a BS in management. I was in my 40's then, so it's never to later. BTW RPI was FREE!! A benefit for working there..

Start reading things other then polls. Read different opinions. Maybe....just maybe you will see the light and realize their isn't a conspiresy at all.

Bunni - In fact, the Zogby poll was the only one that ever had Clinton below 50--and most were far higher.

Wikipedia had clinton at his lowest at 40%. And I'm sure others, using other polls, the ones they prefer had him at the 35% like WND quoted.

The other thing is Clinton received much credit for a good economy in the ninties, but I often think some of that was over-extended. One thing that comes to mind was the dotcom explosion. Investors were very excited about it all, anxious to put money into it, and it drove the markets. In my view, it was pure timing coincidence he happened to be in office when that happened. I really dont see where he had any control or influence over that at all.

Again, different polls show different results.

The left-leaning media is enjoying repeating his numbers are dropping....but as usual it all depends on who's taking the poll, how it's worded, etc.

Here's the daily poll numbers from Rassmussen.com.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/Bush_Job_Approval.htm

But no matter the poll numbers from anywhere....he'll still be our President for 3+years.

Linda_K,
Another LIE from you. Everyone knows most of the media is controlled by the right.

Its just that Bush is doing such a bad job the right can't control the news any longer. Bush failures are too obvious and too many.

Starting in 2006 we can make Bush and his gang of crooks ineffective. We can sent him back to the ranch quacking like a lame duck. We can strip most of his crooks of their power that is if they aren't in JAIL already.

Bear you aren't living in the present or can't face todays bad news about your form of CON-servative government.

I only deal with what we can change today and in the future like in the elections of 2006.

BTW your photo of the throttled duck looks like Bush being deposited back to the ranch after 2006.

The house of LIARS AND CROOKS IS CRUMBLING. Yes!!!
