Minister: Canada Needs More Immigrants Thu Oct 13, 8:11 PM ET
MONTREAL - Canada's foreign affairs minister said Thursday that the country badly needed more immigrants to replace aging workers who are headed for retirement.
Pierre Pettigrew said that increasing the population to 40 million by welcoming more immigrants would help foot the bill for new infrastructure, such as roads and bridges.
"This is a vast country, the infrastructure is expensive and it's a bigger country than the United States is," Pettigrew said. "I am saying that if we were 40 million Canadians, that infrastructure would not be necessarily a lot more expensive, but we would be more (people) to foot the bill."
The minister, in comments to reporters after a speech in Montreal, said Canada was built by immigrants and that's the way it would continue to be built.
Canada's population of just under 32 million has grown by only three million in the past decade. The federal government is set to unveil a new immigration plan this month that would open its doors to 320,000 skilled immigrants a year by the time the plan is fully implemented in five years.

I've long wished all our ultra-liberals would move up there....and their conservatives would move down here.
Maybe some will...if given enough encouragement.
I'll pay for one, one-way ticket for a ultra-liberal who can't afford to pay their own way.....IF they promise to stay there for the rest of their life. LOL
Think I remember offer this sort of thing to helen at one point in time.

Oh and I have another suggestion. Maybe we could open up a straight road, only going one way, of course, from Mexico to Canada, right down the center of America. That way all the illegals could head there - we'll even provide them with water.
That would surely increase their population by millions....and maybe some of our estimated 11 million illegals would also head up there too.
Then all their liberals could enjoy and support their citizens giving them and other US citizens 'cradle to grave' benefits. LOL
Yep, that would work for me.

Did you hear that Martha Stewart was denied entry to Canada (she was suppose to attend some gig in Nova Scotia) because of her criminal record? I couldn't believe it! I wonder if immigration will be that scrupulous when reviewing applicants from other countries? What a joke!

Stewart gets Canada permit to film segment
NEW YORK (AP) — It looks like Martha Stewart is going to get her chance to ride a giant pumpkin on a Canadian lake.
A disappointed Stewart had announced on her daytime show, Martha, on Wednesday that Canadian immigration authorities had barred the ex-con from traveling to a Nova Scotia town to film a segment on its pumpkin festival.
But a Stewart spokeswoman said Thursday that a permit had been granted for her visit. This was confirmed by Canadian Immigration Minister Joe Volpe's office, according to the Canadian Press.
Stewart had planned the trip to Windsor to participate in its annual pumpkin regatta, where participants decorate giant pumpkins for a parade and then paddle them across Lake Pesaquid.
Canadian authorities, however, require special permission for convicted felons to enter the country. Stewart was convicted last year of lying to the government about a stock sale, and spent five months in prison and another five months wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet.
"There was no way I could get the visa by Saturday," Stewart said on her show.
Highlights of the festival, part of Canada's Thanksgiving Day celebration on Monday, are expected to be shown on Martha later this mont
