Congress passed the bill to ban lawsuits against gun manufacturers just based on the use of their product.

At least these frivolous lawsuits have been stopped.

That's good news. No manufacturer should be responsible for people using their product irresponsibly.

I can also never understand why people can sue tobacco companies when a loved one gets cancer from smoking. It's not as if the warnings haven't been around forever or there are no stop smoking aids out there. I can't see myself blaming a tobacco company for my bad habit and then my family profiting from it. Might be just me.

I agree as well that the makers of firearms shouldn't be held responsible for the misuse of their product. It's as lame as the woman who sued McDonald's because her coffee was too hot and she burned herself.

Yes!!!

Blaming guns for killing people is like blaming spoons for Rosie O'donnell being fat.

I glad to hear this passed also. Imo, it never should have even been a problem to begin with. Anyone with any degree of common sense knows people can kill other people with anything, including their own hands.

Stupid that some even thought of making gun manufactures responsible for a humans actions. DUH!!!

Now if they would only kill the gun lock rider...

I gave my liberal neighbors son a book for his birthday. He went crazy trying to find where to put the batteries.

Guns don't kill people, husbands that come home early do.

I never wanted to have a gun in our home. I wouldn't have ever thought to even touch one. However, in one month, there have been multiple shootings around here. It's like someone opened a cage and let the seedy side of life out. As a neighborhood of working class homeowners fed up with the lack of police protection and tired of the "we TAKE what we want" mentality creeping into society, a gun is becomming a regular household item. We have decided the time is now to take back our neighborhood.

If you come onto our property with foul intensions, you will leave in one of two ways: by your own accord or in a body bag. So good to know that the dirt bag's family would not be allowed to sue the gun manufacturer.

Cheryl, that is sad news that you feel you "must" now own a gun.
My advice would be though if you have one either get a shotgun- point and shoot or if you get a handgun practice practice practice.
Not knowing your weapon can get you hurt.

I posted this because I know people out there are suing the gun manufacturers for something that was not their responsibility.

What's next sue the alchohol makers for drunk drivers?

Ron

We have a shotgun and I know how to use it. Actually, the first time I used it, I hit the target dead on. We have a dog (Shepherd, Husky mix), but sometimes that's just not enough.

What's happening here is that the City wants to improve the inner city. They're building very large and expensive homes in neighborhoods that house the very poor, drug dealers and other scoundrels (not calling the poor scoundrels - the drug dealers, etc. - just thought I'd clarify). The rich are moving in and the criminals are being pushed out. Most of them are moving into my neighborhood. Over the past year, drug activity and violent crime has increased. My street has very little in the way of rental property, but we are surrounded by streets that do. Unfortunately, you can't put up a barrier to keep that element out.

I'm not anti-gun by a long shot, and I don't see manufacturers being held liable for the misuse of their product, whether it's guns or McDonald's coffee.. On the other hand, this law not only protects the gun companies, it protects wholesalers and dealers too. That bothers me some. I expect to see this law fought over tooth and nail. Doesn't bother me one way or the other. Around here, our security is called 00Buck.

The Daily Kos has an interesting take on this deal. Recently the Supreme Court ruled that software makers who produce applications used to copy DVD's and other forms of media can be held liable if their products are used for the purpose of copyright infringement.
I use two programs to make archive copies of DVD's we buy. This is legal. If I decided to burn multiple copies of those movies and take them to a swapmeet and sell them, or even give them away, I'd be breaking the law.
How come a software co. can be held liable for something as inconsequential as an illegally copied movie, while a gun co. walks away from culpability when someone dies?

Wonder if it has anything to do with how much $$ the NRA gave to the right side of aisle while this bill was being debated?.....nah....'course not.

I don't believe the disagreement has as much to do with contributions to the republican party as it does with the disagreement between the dem and rep parties on just what is said/meant in our Constitution about the 'right to bear arms'. Imo, THAT'S where the biggest disagreement between he to parties is.
