Wow Maggie, that sure is an oddity, to not like music. If you can believe this, i've known deaf people that liked music. They told me that when sitting near the speakers they can feel the beat and kinda get a sense of what it must sound like.

I have to admit, even my own kids don't understand it...I sometimes think I may be the only person on earth that feels this way. I don't like to dance either..and have absolutely no rhythm what-so-ever..
Edited to add.. do you think I could possibly be an Alien and I don't know it???

I love music. I listed to classic rock, classical, big band. . .everything but rap. I'd go crazy in the car without it. During stressful times there's nothing like a little bit of classical music!

Maggie, I can sympathize. I absolutely hate anything with vocals or words, but do enjoy pure instrumental music. About the only well-known exception to this might be someone like Enya, but her voice is almost an instrument by itself
It's so hard to find ANYTHING like that on radio, that I once started an all Instrumental/Newage Internat radio station that ran for several years.
I prefer to say I hate "songs", but love "music".
Not exactly the same situation as you, but simliar enough to mention.

Love music and my tastes run the entire gamut from Classical to Rap and everything in between.
I can listen to Chopin one minute and Black Sabbath the next to Bill Monroe after that.
But have to say Enya is one of my favorites. Along with Alison Kraus

Maggie, Maybe you are like Chopin who was so sensitive to music when he was a child that hearing music caused him to be exceedingly upset and frustrated until he could compose and play his own music. Only then could he enjoy music.
So, maybe, like young Chopin you don't really dislike music. You just have a musician's sensitivity along with an unfulfilled fantasy and need to create your own music!

Maggie, maybe you just haven't found the genre of music that you like or that suits you.
I really feel sorry for you that you don't like music.
I went to Radio Shack the other day to buy a set of headphones just so i could hear one song on them. I wish i still had my speaker chair. It was egg shaped and it had 8 speakers set in the upholstery that surounded you in sound.

Maggie, i can certainly understand that. A number of years ago i worked with some friends from San Felipe Pueblo and they invited me to one of their feast days where they played their tribal music with drums and chants and did their tribal dances around a huge bon fire. I was the only white boy there and i had long hair back then. I can remember thinking that i was going to be scalped or somthing but i had a great time and they fed me until i was about to burst. It was kinda like that scene in Dances With Wolves, when after the buffalo hunt, Costner was taken to each teepee and fed but he had to tell his buffalo hunt story. They even gave me an honorary tribe name.

I love music. I don't leave the house without my iPod. Driving without music is sheer torture for me. Most of my memories as a kid are directly related to different songs. Last night I was going thru my parents album collection and realized where my diverse taste came from. (I also realized they were much coller when I was young than I thought they were.) It was fun and really funny because I could pull out an album and recall a memory of something that happened or people that were around at a time I listened to it when I was 7 or 8 years old. I can't imagine not wanting to hear music, pretty much anything... except mariachi... the horns in mariachi make me want to scream for mercy.

I just can't think of any kind of music that I don't like. I haven't danced with the Nigerian natives that Maggie mentioned but I'll bet that I would like their deep dark rhythm too!
I love my ipod too, Fenix!

I sincerely doubt that was what it was maggie.

I LOVE music....almost all kind...not into classical though. And when cleaning my house....putting on some fastpaced music....gets me in the mood real quick.
But the lyrics to me have to be good too....not just the background music. The words can take one down memory lane or can be just so appropriate for a situation one is going through at that time.
I blast my stereo speakers out here in the country...until just before the base makes the walls vibrate. Music makes me feel like dancing....and according to the mood I'm in.....it will calm me down....or pick me up. Wouldn't want to live without music....how dull that would be.

Or perhaps a seismic experience
or were you dreaming of me again?
I gave my liberal neighbors son a book for his birthday. He went crazy trying to find where to put the batteries.
